Nev Schulman, host of MTV’s ‘Catfish’ thinks he may be to blame for Ben Affleck’s rejection on the dating app Raya.
This week a TikTok user named Nivine Jay went viral when she shared a video of actor/director Affleck, proving his identity and asking why she unmatched him.
“Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on Raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram,” she captioned the clip.
‘Catfish’ Host Nev Schulman Thinks He Had a Hand in Ben Affleck’s Dating App Rejection.
“Nivine, why did you unmatch me?” the two-time Oscar winner asked in the clip. “It’s me.”
Jay’s TikTok has amassed more than 3 million views. Now Schulman, speaking to TMZ, has admitted he and his show, Catfish may be to blame.
Schulman admitted that, while it’s not a big surprise that Ben Affleck would be on a dating app—after all, celebs need to find creative ways to find love in a pandemic, too—he understood why a match would be wary.
In the wake of Catfish’s success, those on the other end of a match have become increasingly dubious as to whether they are being deceived with filtered photos or a complete false identity– inherently what is at the core of the hit MTV series.
Schulman also told TMZ he believes the more successful or famous a person is, the more difficult it is to find a real love connection, yet believes a more important issue is keeping their private life under wraps. For that reason, he thinks Jay posting Affleck’s video should get her kicked off the dating app.
There was also some advice for Affleck who Schulman admits to ‘inadvertently c*** blocking’: “You shouldn’t have sent her that video. So what, she unmatched with you…get over it!” Schulman said before adding, “You’re looking a little thirsty, Ben!”
