19-year-old Madison Kohout took to TikTok to document her life after a happy accident saw her moving into an Arkansas retirement home.
As one TikTok commenter so astutely said: “This could be a sitcom.”
So, what’s life like for a 19-year-old living like a Golden Girl?
“The rent was significantly cheaper compared to where I had moved from,” Kohout says. “I was able to lease a two-bedroom for only $350 a month. It was super spacious and felt like home.”
Sounds like the dream! But of course, Kohout’s followers needed to know the backstory.
A Teenaged TikToker Accidentally Moved In To A Retirement Home…And She’s Loving It!
Apparently when Madison moved from Oklahoma, a friend she’d met on the social media platform, TikTok helped her find the apartment. But the low rent and quiet neighborhood came with a catch the teenager never expected.
It took around a week for Madison to realize there was something a little different about her neighbors.
“Me getting ready to move to an apartment out of state that I’ve never seen in person… and realize I just moved myself into retirement home,” Kohout captioned her introductory TikTok video, that has now gone viral, amassing around 3.5million views.
She further explained, “When I went out to my car, I started meeting some of my neighbors. To my surprise, they were all over the age of 65. A week later, I saw the sign reading ‘Senior Citizen Apartments.’ I realized I accidentally moved into a retirement village.”
While one follower joked, “Congrats. You’re their IT person now.”, the teen isn’t complaining about her living situation. In fact, she loves the peace and quiet she gets at night due to the senior citizens’ early bedtimes.
Madison’s neighbors have embraced the newcomer also, often appearing in her now viral TikTok videos.
The moral of the story? Kohout summed it up when signing off from one of her videos, “Just remember, if you are struggling with rent… start your retirement early!”
