Gina Kirschenheiter struggled to testify against her ex-husband Matt Kirschenheiter after the latter pleaded guilty to battery.
‘Real Housewives of Orange County’: Gina Kirschenheiter Breaks Down In Tears As She Testifies Against Her Ex-Husband
The former Real Housewives of Orange County star filed charges against Matt in 2019. While he initially denied any wrongdoing, he would go on to change his plea to guilty. So when the time came to face Matt, Gina started to crumble. According to the court documents, Gina broke down as she was giving her account of the incident. The statement read: “I thought I was going to die.
“I still get chills thinking about how I begged you to, ‘Stop. Think about the kids.’ And you responded by saying, ‘Your mom is going to die tonight.’ It echoes in my brain, and it sinks deep in my heart.” It is understandable for Gina to feel this way. After all, they had been together for eight years since their marriage in 2010. Not only that, they had three children together: Nicholas, Sienna, and Luca.
So the prospect of helping to put the father of her kids behind bars was too much to bear. And the episode left her questioning what Matt had turned into. She added: “That night, it literally felt like I was in a house with a stranger whom I’d never met before. Your eyes were completely black, and you were not Matt. It was so hard for me to believe that it was even you, but it was.”
That is why there are major concerns over whether Matt will play a part in seeing his children. They are still minors, which brings the added issue of whether supervision may be needed. That would not just be for Matt. It could also be for Gina, who suffered mental health issues in the aftermath of the incident. But she will continue to do what is best for her kids.
She continued: “It’s taken me a lot of time, self-care, and therapy to work through what happened that night, but I have managed to forgive you for most of it. I accept that I will always have this painful memory from that night. I’ve come to terms with that.” The judge ruled that Matt should be sent to jail for 180 days and undertake a rehabilitation programme.
