‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) put a new episode of State of Mind out. The weekly videos focus on mental health and this one focused on loss and its effect on a person, as well as the toll of Stay at Home orders. Let’s see who the guest was and why this was such a great chat.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Lilly as Lily
First, General Hospital spoilers reveal Lilly Melgar played Lily Corinthos, a former wife of Sonny. According to the backstory on Wikipedia, she had an eventful run for a few years in the late ‘90s.
Unfortunately, it was her loyalty to, and relationship with, Sonny that led to her downfall. She was apparently killed by her own father, who’d planted a car bomb meant for Sonny.
However, she also had a romance with Miguel Morez (Ricky Martin). It seems all three were closely connected, and the actors touch on these days during the episode. Let’s talk about a few of our favorite insights.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Set stories
First, we loved hearing a little bit about filming in Puerto Rico and working with Martin. Throughout the chat, it was clear Benard and Meglar have a friendship that has lasted ever since their days together in Port Charles.
We think these connections are the key that makes State of Mind such a moving and effective webshow. He’s talking to so many of his family and co-workers, so there’s an intimacy and trust that allows people to get vulnerable.
Since Benard’s mission is to raise awareness around mental illness, that’s definitely important. Such honesty is authentic and relatable, so people see they’re not alone. And Meglar definitely wasn’t alone in some of what she discussed on the show.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Opening up
We all know the situation that’s been going on the past few years. What’s not as often talked about (or given the importance it needs to have) is the human toll these measures can take.
Meglar shared the tragic story of her ex husband’s suicide just before the Stay Home order came out. She also got real in talking about how some tragic news about her father was made worse by the circumstances. Check out the video above to see the conversation.
One thing that really stood out in this episode was that Meglar apparently was comfortable enough to turn the tables on her host. Very early into the conversation, she was the one asking several questions.
Of course, he got back in the interviewer seat later, and it turned into a casual chat, but it was interesting to see. We don’t remember that happening on the episodes we’ve watched. Overall, it was a moving view that actually makes us want to look up old episodes to see them in action together.
