Former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner is throwing her name in the mix to be the next governor of California as Gavin Newsom faces his own recall battle. The 71-year-old former Olympian and reality star announced that she has filed paperwork to run in 2022.

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years,” Caitlyn said in a statement on her web site. “I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality. But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people.”
Gavin, meanwhile, is focusing on climate change on his Twitter feed today. He wrote, “ICYMI: Another Trump lawsuit that denied climate change has been wiped away. The Ninth Circuit dismissed a baseless suit against CA’s cap-&-trade agreement— one of the largest emissions trading systems in the WORLD that has helped lower greenhouse gas emissions.”
Caitlyn has criticized Gavin Newsom for ordering Californians to stay home amid the coronavirus pandemic while claiming that he “goes out to dinner with his lobbyist friends.”
If she were to win, Caitlyn Jenner would not be the first celebrity governor of California. Action star Arnold Schwarzenegger also famously served in the role from 2003 to 2011.
