Japanese movies are known for their action and bravado. But on some occasions, their films have failed to live up to the hype. Here are some of the Japanese movies you should avoid.
Robo-Geisha 2009
The movie is based on two sisters, who try to outwit each other. Yoshie is often under the shadow of her elder sister, Kikue. But their hostility towards each other changes, when they are kidnapped by the head of an evil assassin leader, Kageno. They are given the role of becoming assassins. This time, Yoshie excels beyond her sister, much to Kikue’s annoyance. Will they end up turning on each other?
The movie was generally not well received due to the poor visual effects and action sequences that were often exaggerated.Â

The Machine Girl 2008
A high school student, by the name of Ami Hyuga, sees her whole life turn upside down as her brother is murdered. The perpetrator was a well-known bully, Sho Kimura, and his team of members. Ami takes it upon herself to hold them accountable and enact her revenge. In her efforts, the bullies’ cut her arm off before a plastic surgery procedure sees her equipped with a machine gun arm. Will she find them and get her justice?
The action scenes were not well-put-together, and the pacing of the movie was disjointed. Â

One Missed Call 2003
A college student, Yoko Okazaki, receives a voicemail in which she can hear herself screaming, and the message is dated two days later. As the voicemail’s actual timing transpires into reality, Yoko is shockingly killed as she is pushed off a bridge and onto an oncoming train.
The film was criticised for being too similar to other movies such as Scream and Final Destination.

Tokyo Gore Police 2008
We are introduced to a scientist, who has created a deadly virus that alters the DNA of humans and changes them into machines. This comes to the attention of the Tokyo Police, who have decided they must act in order to maintain law and order. In a battle between the machines and the police, who will triumph? And what will the cost be?
The film received a mixed review as some praised the bizarre plot, whereas others felt it was weak on character development.Â

Sadako vs Kayako 2016
This is a battle between two spirits, with the outcome of the victory determining whether the protagonist lives or dies. The main character, Natsumi, watches a video, but it turns out the contents of the video were cursed. As such, Natsumi is due to die in two days. What can she do to stop it? Natsumi’s only option is to ensure that her killer, Sadako, favours a battle with another spirit Sadako.
The film divided the audience as critics felt that the plot delayed the action for too long.Â
