Vanessa Bryant has blasted Evan Rachel Wood after she had tweeted that Kobe Bryant was a rapist. The tweet has recently come to the attention of Vanessa as it was made some time last year.

The tweet went on to say: “What has happened is tragic. I am heartbroken for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously.” Vanessa denied the allegations and went as far as saying that it was defamation. In an Instagram post, she said: “This just came to my attention. Your false, insensitive, defamatory and slanderous tweet on 1/26/20 is vile and disturbing.
“Behaviour like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation doesn’t make someone guilty. YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE.” It was such a strong defence, and even more so, given that Kobe died in a tragic helicopter crash. His death left a considerable void in Vanessa’s life as she has taken on the responsibility of continuing Kobe’s legacy through their kids.
And yet, this has not been the first time that an allegation has been made against Kobe for rape. Abigail Disney, who is a producer, had also tweeted that Kobe was a rapist. At the time, she said: “I haven’t said anything about Kobe so far because I felt some time needed to pass before weighing in. But yes, it’s time for the sledgehammer to come out. The man was a rapist. Deal with it.”
Vanessa has been through a lot following Kobe’s death, which adds another unwelcome hurdle in her life. With Kobe not alive to defend himself, the burden has, sadly, been pushed on Vanessa. She has managed to keep it together but at a brutal cost.
In a previous post on Instagram, she revealed how she was struggling with grief: “Let me be real — Grief is a messed up cluster of emotions. One day, you’re in the moment laughing, and the next day you don’t feel like being alive. I want to say this for the people struggling with grief and heartbreaking loss.”
