‘Days of Our Lives (DOOL)’ spoilers reveal Jackée Harry (Paulina Price) has been a favorite of ours for a long time. Her sitcom and movie resume is classic and her performances are on point right now as she moves into Salem. However, there’s one problem here—the writing of the character. Let’s take a look at the awkward “wokeness” of the character and how she’s a classic archetype of the TV or movie villains.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: The intro
First, Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal she got off to a great start. It was hilarious watching her punk Abe Carver (James Reynolds) by acting upset with him. And she definitely seems to be a caring aunt who’s the fun type who’ll fill you with candy before taking you to the toy store. You know, the kind of relative every kid wants to spend time with.
However, it was just a tiny bit awkward the way she seemed to go overboard with going on about Eli Price’s (Lamon Archey) looks. It seems just a little bit inappropriate, but we’ll see if that comes to anything. Really, there’s a much bigger problem with the character.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Entitled, much?
So, every time you have a small town like Salem in a TV show or movie, you’ll more often than not have that one person who comes along out of nowhere and thinks they know what the town needs better than those who live there. And they usually try to push some of their big-city stuff on it, taking away the simplicity and charm that makes the place what it is. And they rarely ask what the people living there think.
Paulina was a classic example of that when she stepped in and just assumed that her background and desire to bring “change” to “shake up” the place should automatically get her what she wants. Sure, Kate DiMera (Lauren Koslow) is not an innocent waif here.
She pulled a similar unfair move on Gabi DiMera (Camila Banus). However, we think wanting something isn’t enough reason to be able to snatch a property someone already made a deal on out from under them. And then to assume that someone in office will help you because of a family tie? Can we say, “conflict of interest” and “corruption”?
While Abe ultimately agreed to make the intro, we’re glad he at least pointed out the hypocrisy of her pointing out Kate being “personal” in the situation while she’s trying to use a personal connection to make a deal. We think there should be a lot of fun moments between these two, and we hope Abe will continue to hold his own.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Open foot, insert mouth
Of course, part of her whole argument was all about diversity. She thinks that there should be more representation in the people who own space in the town square. Not a bad thing, in its own right. Again, we just don’t think anyone should use that to take away a deal from anyone else. But here’s the real awkwardness.
While Paulina was lecturing Julie on proper behavior and going on about the bias in the town square, she was showing a bit of her own. She was pretty rude to Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and asked why some “old white woman” had anything to do with those babies. Then, she acted as if it’s completely mind-blowing and almost impossible for Julie to be Eli’s grandmother.
That shows an inherent bias of her own she might need to work on. Let’s see if they can keep Paulina from having anymore embarrassing moments. We’re not counting on it, though. We’re getting Haley Chen (Thia Megia) election story vibes here, so it’s possible she’s going to be an outlet for a lot of messaging. We’ll see.
