Mama June Shannon has opened up on the battle to overcome her addiction to drugs, and by all accounts, things got really bad.
Mama June Shannon Spent Millions Of Dollars On Drugs
The problem had gotten so out of hand that Mama had spent over a million on drugs. In an interview with Us Weekly, Mama stated: “I spent, like, $750K. [Actually, it was] like $1.5 million. [It would] start off as a one gram a day, which was $100, and then it went from there to, like, a couple hundred dollars next week, a couple hundred dollars. Then it became $2,400 or $3,000.”
Things spiralled out of her control, given that Mama was able to maintain her cognitive functions throughout the addiction. This worked against her for the following reasons: First, given that she looked fine on the surface, she was able to continue working, which brought in further cash. Naturally, that was a disaster as it ended up inadvertently financing her habit to the point where she had no option but to get some help.
She added: “I just had an abundance of money to do more of the drug. I know the world will be shocked because you didn’t know it. I was out doing press. I was out living my life. I was out doing, you know, I was doing a season and stuff like that.”
Mama has, though, taken some steps to deal with her addiction. She has been undergoing rehab in an attempt to bounce back stronger. And by the sounds of it, her habit has left her in dire financial circumstances. That is why she has started to promote her new T.V. show entitled Mama June: Road to Redemption. Mama is hoping that she can use her story to inspire others on how to recover and warn them over the dangers of drugs.
She continued: “I don’t have a lot. I’m trying to rebuild myself financially. I went to rehab with a $1.75 to my name. I’m able to pay my rent. I’m able to pay my light bill and able to do that and have just a little bit of money saved up. My goal is to live day by day.”
