‘Days of Our Lives (DOOL)’ spoilers find that Brady Black’s not-so-smooth love life is always a plot point on the long running soap. His latest love (and mother to his daughter), Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) is currently locked up in Statesville prison and she is very unhappy to hear how close her beau is getting to his ex-wife Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin).
Kristen is doing her best to convince her doppelgänger, Susan Banks (also Stacy Haiduk) to take her place behind bars so Kristen can keep an eye on Chloe and Brady. And she may be wise for doing so.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Brady Black (Eric Marstolf) and his fetish for bad girls.
It’s clear Chloe has some lingering feelings for her ex-husband, and in all honesty, Brady would be smart to return to the least problematic of his exes. This bodes the question: why does Brady Black favor the felons?
Sure, Brady has had his issues. As a teen he was less than the model citizen, and as an adult he has fought against alcohol and drug addictions. On the whole, though, Brady is a good, solid guy.
Brady started off his string of romances innocently enough with Chloe (as long as you don’t ask Chloe’s ex, Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson)). As all soap couples do, the twosome had ups and downs and an eventual divorce. When Brady returned to Salem from Vienna–where he had moved with Chloe and fallen in with a rough crowd–he raised eyebrows by dating (then) bad girl Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker).
Nicole hasn’t always been the level-headed mother she is today. The ex-porn star has faked her husband, Victor Kiriakis’ (John Aniston) death to become a wealthy widow, murdered another ex-husband Deimos Kiriakis (Vincent Irizarry)–yes, she really likes to keep it in the family–and has switched babies with rival Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), to provide just an encapsulated version of her laundry list of bad deeds.
Throughout the years Nicole and Brady have been on and off, and now that Nicole seems to have turned good, Brady is no longer romantically interested.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: He might want to speak with someone (professional) about that.
Brady has suffered some heartbreaking losses with ex-girlfriend, Arianna Hernandez (Lindsay Hartley) dying in a hit-and-run and then fiancé Madison James (Sarah Joy Brown) dying in an explosion on their wedding day. Perhaps that’s why Brady found himself in the arms, and bed of the ex-girlfriend of the son of one of the most dangerous drug lords in the world, Theresa Donovan (Jen Lilley).
During a period of being off the wagon–due to falling in love with Kristen DiMera only to learn she had drugged and raped his priest step-brother, Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan)–Brady met the party girl Theresa (or Jeannie, depending on how you remembered her). If Brady wasn’t a total lost cause, he was soon dragged down by Theresa’s consequences-be-damned, drug and alcohol fueled lifestyle.
In a drunken and high stupor, the two eloped to Vegas, Theresa’s plan all along as she wanted at Eric’s money. Shortly after, Theresa discovered she was pregnant with Brady’s son- Tate. Though their relationship was nothing Shakespeare would write about in the beginning, the pair did fall in love and planned to raise their son together and sober.
During this time Brady met and felt compassion for a mysterious and troubled woman, Summer Townsend (Marie Wilson). The woman, who turned out to be Maggie Horton’s (Suzanne Rogers) long lost and daughter is a bit of a bad seed, so of course Brady was drawn to her!
Eventually (and after the Mexican drug cartels got involved) Theresa and Brady’s relationship didn’t work out and Theresa took Tate with her when she left Brady for good.
The only logical next step would be to begin a torrid love affair with Theresa’s big sister, Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva)!
Not to be out done by her little sis, Eve was an ex-prostitute who would eventually sleep with her teenaged daughter’s teenaged boyfriend. Classy lassy. At first Brady was faking his feelings for Eve at the behest of grandfather, Victor in a bid to control her, however, the relationship turned real and the two became betrothed.
Once Eve uncovered Brady and Victor’s secrets she dipped out, leaving Brady to fall back in love with the priest-raping, embryo-stealing, nurse-murdering, identity-thieving, blackmailing ex-nun-trainee, Kristen DiMera.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: So why does Brady constantly seek out these villainous women?
We could go all pseudo psychologist here as we try to figure out why Brady has a passion for the problematic ladies, and deep dive into his childhood. With his mother dying when he was a baby, Brady was raised by father, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and John’s wife, Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall).
Brady began to resent Marlena as a teenager, and though that is all water under the bridge now, there may be lingering psychological scars that feed Brady’s hankering for heartbreak. If only his stepmother would be qualified to help him overcome this. Oh wait…
There are millions of women worldwide who love themselves a bad boy, perhaps Brady is just the same–addicted to the danger, enticed by the intriguing, aroused by the depravity.
Maybe Brady is a man who thinks he can change the bad girl, or sees himself the hero, saving the wicked and immoral from themselves. Perhaps opposites just do attract.
In reality, it’s likely the writers pair Brady up with Salem’s villainesses to give his character an added layer and to bring out the softer side of the ladies he romances, often leading to their redemptions. They are onto something there, after all, we are still watching after 55 years!
Thank goodness Brady portrayer, Eric Martsolf does not share the same unluckiness-in-love as his on screen alter ego. The soap vet, who turns 50 this summer (whaaaaaattttt?) has been happily married to Lisa Kouchak since 2003. The couple have a pair of 14 twin boys, Mason and Chase.
Keep watching Days of Our Lives weekdays on NBC at 1pm weekdays to see Kristen and Chloe duke it out for Brady’s love! May the best baddest woman win.
