According to some critics ,this cover just doesn’t give Vice President-elect Kamala Harris the justice that she deserves. Vogue Magazine was forced to address its Kamala Harris cover controversy after many social media users – along with the VP’s team – expressed their dismay over the shot that the magazine had selected for its February issue. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, Kamala’s team thought the cover would be of her in a powder blue suit as opposed to the photo of her wearing a black jacket and Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers. Some social media users have been vocal about their disappointment at the cover, criticizing the lighting and the casual styling.
Vogue Hits Back At Critics For Its Kamala Harris Cover
“In this moment where the country is so divided, where we need serious leaders, the blue and gold shot represents that,” the source says. “That would never have been approved, and Harris’ team is extremely disappointed.”
Seeing how the internet gave its unanimous disapproval of the cover, Vogue was forced to address the issue in a statement on Monday.
“The team at Vogue loved the images Tyler Mitchell shot and felt the more informal image captured Vice President-elect Harris’s authentic, approachable nature — which we feel is one of the hallmarks of the Biden/Harris administration,” the statement reads. “To respond to the seriousness of this moment in history, and the role she has to play leading our country forward, we’re celebrating both images of her as covers digitally.”
Yet, there were also some people who said that the cover is so bad that it should prompt Anna Wintour to hand in her resignation.
“If the only time her team can properly style a black women is when she’s covered in couture then her tenure has ran it course. Look at how Kamala Harris’ Elle cover straight up bodied Vogue. Electric chair!”
“Folks who don’t get why the Vogue cover of VP-elect Kamala Harris is bad are missing the point,” activist Charlotte Clymer tweeted. “The pic itself isn’t terrible as a pic. It’s just far, far below the standards of Vogue. They didn’t put thought into it. Like homework finished the morning it’s due. Disrespectful.”
So far Vice President Kamala Harris herself has not made any comments about the cover, nor has she said anything about the criticism, either.
