Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have quit social media after receiving unwelcome abuse. This comes from a report according to The Times. The duo— up until then— had quite a considerable following.
British Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Quit Social Media In Shock Move
Meghan had over 1.9 million Instagram followers, and over 350,000 Twitter followers. Following the start of their new charity Archewell Foundations, they have no plans to use social media for it. In their final Instagram post on the Sussex Royal, the couple said:
“As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line—together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.”
“As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.”While you may not see us here, the work continues.”
So what led to this moment? Well, when speaking to the Teenager Therapy podcast, Meghan went on give the following statements about the detrimental impact that social media has had on her life:“I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female.
“Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible, I was on maternity leave or with a baby. But what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable, that’s so big, you can’t think of what that feels like, because I don’t care if you’re 15 or 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.”
But for all the impact it has had on Meghan, how does Harry view it? By all accounts, rather in the same vein. In a statement he made last year, Harry said: “To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in.
There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour because it destroys people and destroys lives.“Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this.”
