According to Deadline, ABC is in early development on Pine Valley. Alums Kelly and Mark are set to executive produce the series alongside Andrew Stearn and filmmaker Robert Nixon, son of the late AMC creator Agnes Nixon.
The premise follows “a young journalist with a secret agenda comes to expose the dark and murderous history of a town named Pine Valley only to become entangled in a feud between the Kane and Santos families.”
Soap Fans Weigh In On New All My Children Reboot – Love It Or Hate It?
Of course, it didn’t take long at all for fans to weigh in on the news. While a lot of people are certainly excited about it, others aren’t sure what to expect.
Some comments included, “I don’t expect to see a primetime version bringing back all 40 cast members or a lot of the well-known AMC vets as a Primetime show can’t accommodate a cast of that size. But there do need to be SOME vets and familiar faces around which to build the cast. Otherwise there’s no point in tying it to AMC. They need to go with a continuation rather than a brand new, fully rebooted version like Charmed or Walker Texas Ranger. Otherwise just make a new, original show.”
Other fans wrote, “I’ve been back and forth, although I’m intrigued that Kelly, Mark, and Agnes’ son, Robert will be involved, but with the exception of Maddie being switched as a baby, there really wasn’t a rivalry between Erica and Maria,” along with, “I’m still in that “all-important” demographic, and I still know who the core families are. They don’t have to delve into ancient history, but since they’re pulling stuff out of thin air, why not have it make some sense? Kelly Ripa’s Hayley is a Chandler who married a Santos. Have their kids caught in the middle between their parents’ warring families. There, no backstory required, and no need to use the Kane name as clickbait.”
