Hulu’s ‘Bad Hair’ is a horror satire set in 1989, using a lot of the effects that would’ve been available in 1989. There were a lot of practical effects, split screens, simple zooms, and more that made it come alive and feel like a piece of history. It was even shot on actual film!
If you had the chance to watch it already, what did you think of it? I’m a big horror fan and covered the trailer when it was released, waiting in anticipation. Horror satire is amazing when done right (Evil Dead 2, Cabin in the Woods), so this jumped straight to the top of my list.
“In this horror satire set in 1989, Bad Hair follows an ambitious young woman (Elle Lorraine) who gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career comes at a great cost when she realizes that her new hair may have a mind of its own.”
Hulu’s ‘Bad Hair’ Featurette – Go Behind The Scenes Of This Horror Film
Now, Hulu has released a short 5-minute featurette about the creation of the film and the impact it has on black filmmakers. The director attributes a lot of this film to films he loved as a kid that are often left out of the conversation, as well as his direct influence from directors like Alfred Hitchcock and Brian De Palma.
Hulu’s ‘Bad Hair’ is available right now and if you’re a horror genre fan, be sure to give this a watch. It borders on the line of horrifying, silly, and great.
