Kirstie Alley learned the hard way that stating one’s opinion on social media these days can lead to a lot of nastiness, especially when the topic is about politics. The Hollywood actress got slammed from each and every direction after she announced that she is voting for President Donald Trump in next month’s election. Here’s what you need to know.
The actress, who is best known for her role on the television comedy Cheers, made her comments on Saturday afternoon, when she said that she would be voting for Donald trump in his reelection bid against Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
Twitter Got Nasty To Kirstie Alley For Her Trump Support
“I’m voting for @realDonaldTrump because he’s NOT a politician,” she said. “I voted for him 4 years ago for this reason and shall vote for him again for this reason. He gets things done quickly and he will turn the economy around quickly. There you have it folks there you have it.”
Of course, it didn’t take very long for Twitter to react, with plenty of celebs and Hollywood figures slamming Kirstie for her willingness to publicly support Donald Trump. Director Judd Apatow was one of many who criticized her by writing, “Shelly Long was funnier than you.” The comment was a reference to the fact that Alley was brought on to Cheers in Season 6 to replace Long’s character after the latter decided to move on from the show.
Kirstie responded to her critics by saying that she’s never experienced such trolling or name-calling in her life. “Don’t think I’ve ever seen so much name-calling in my life,” she wrote. “Definitely not on my site here anyway I guess I’m not allowed to have a viewpoint without being called a really nasty names by what I’m going to suppose are really nasty people.”
