According to a post from IGN, Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Fruitvale Station) is set to produce a film about 90’s cartoon superhero Static Shock! I am a child of the ’90s and ‘Static Shock’ was on my daily viewing list. It was about a teenager who gains electromagnetic powers!
Now, with these powers, the best thing he could think of doing is jumping on a garbage can lid and fly around. It was the best! Fans of the series have been waiting patiently for a film about Virgil and his life as a teenage superhero, and though I haven’t watched it in nearly 20 years, I’m still super excited!
Michael B. Jordan said the following when speaking about producing the project,
“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes.”
Michael B. Jordan To Produce A ‘Static Shock’ Movie!
The series began in 2000 and lasted four seasons starring voice acting heavyweights like Phil LaMarr (Samurai Jack) and Jason Marsden (A Goofy Movie). While it only made it four seasons, the show had a lasting impact on my generation and the potential film produced by Michael B. Jordan (also around my age) gives us a ton of excitement.
No castings have been announced, but the first person who popped into my head was Caleb Anderson McLaughlin (Lucas from Stranger Things). While he’s a few years older than the 14-year-old Virgil Hawkins, he’s played a teenager before and was fantastic in ‘Stranger Things’. I could see him easily sliding into the role.
