UFC News: Conor McGregor Teases Charity Fight Against Dustin Poirier

It could be a potentially exciting end to the year for MMA fans, as it has been teased on social media that Conor McGregor could be on the brink of setting up a huge charity fight against Dustin Poirier. McGregor has been involved in a war of words this week with Dana White, as the Irishman seems keen to get back into the octagon as soon as possible.

However, the former two-division champion has now taken matters into his own hands it would seem, as he could be lining up a huge charity fight against the top-ranked lightweight in UFC.

UFC News: McGregor vs Poirier Potentially Happening

Poirier seemingly got involved in the discussions after replying to McGregor’s tweet. McGregor was disappointed that he wasn’t able to come to an agreement to fight despite not being active in seven months. Poirier commented, before McGregor began to tease that the two stars could have a charity fight.

McGregor revealed that the fight would have nothing to do with the UFC, and proceeds could go to charities that both fighters are involved in. He revealed that they could market the event between themselves and find the best possible deal. However, he did emphasise that it would be purely an ‘exhibition’.

UFC News: Potential Date Set

McGregor then revealed in his next tweet that the potential fight could happen on the 12th December in Ireland. He also noted that there wouldn’t be any weight classifications to meet and no weigh in.

It would seem as though Poirier is sold on the idea as he replied stating that he was ‘in’ and that it is an excellent opportunity to help those that will ‘benefit from this’. It isn’t the first time that Poirier has worked with The Good Fight Foundation, as he and his wife have worked closely with the charity for the past couple of years.

This will not be the first time that the two huge names have come up against each other, as they previously met in the memorable main event at UFC 178. On that occasion, McGregor won by KO inside the opening round in Las Vegas.

However, since then Poirier has won the interim Lightweight Championship, and could be on course for another shot at the bout next year. Regardless, there will be huge interest around the world in this fight.
