She might be one of the most recognized and celebrated models and television personalities in the world, but even someone like Chrissy Teigen can’t avoid the nastiness of racism, especially when it rears its ugly head. Chrissy recently opened up to Marie Claire in an interview about a moment when she and John Legend experienced racism while looking for the hitmaker’s godmother’s home. Here’s what she has to say.
Chrissy recalled, “We were in a nicer neighborhood at night, driving slowly, looking for John’s godmother’s home. These two guys were in a pickup truck slowly tailing us, flashing their lights, and trying to speak to us. When we pulled over, they were like, ‘What are you guys looking for?’ and we gave them the address.”

Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Her Most Racist Experience
That’s when Chrissy said the two men made it clear that she and her husband John were not welcomed in their neighborhood.
They literally said, ‘Get your asses out of here!’ and proceeded to follow us all the way into her driveway. They got out of the car and stared at us as we knocked on the door and went inside. It was a terrible, scary experience.”
During her interview, Chrissy couldn’t help but break out in tears when she said, “That was my first taste of seeing what happens to Black men every day. It was horrifying and could have gone wrong so quickly.”
While Chrissy was crying throughout the entire ordeal, she says that her husband John remained unfazed.
“I was sobbing afterward for hours, and I noticed John wasn’t emotional about it,” she said. “Seeing that he wasn’t very thrown by it was really upsetting because he obviously had experienced it before.”
