The UFC action has been hectic over the past couple of months, and that promises to continue with one of the most eagerly-anticipated fights of the entire year this weekend. Daniel Cormier will be looking to regain the UFC Heavyweight Championship when he takes on Stipe Miocic in a rematch from their huge fight last year.

The bout will be the main event of this coming weekends UFC 252 event, and it doesn’t get much bigger than these two heavyweights going at it in the Octagon. But, can Cormier regain the heavyweight title and increase his excellent UFC record that consists of 22 victories and two defeats to this point?

UFC News: Retribution Is Cormier’s Aim

That defeat last year was a shock for most of the UFC world, with many believing that Cormier was going to continue with his excellent record over recent years. He had gone into that fight having won seven of his previous eight, with the only blotch on that record coming in the NC against Jon Jones. It was also more surprising given that Cormier beat Miocic on his return to the heavyweight division back in July 2018.

However, the trilogy fight was set after Miocic dethroned Cormier in a brutal fashion nearly 12 months ago, when he beat him by TKO in California. There is a sense going into this fight that this could be the last outing in Octagon for Cormier, but will the 41-year-old be able to bow out with a huge victory that highlights him as the greatest UFC heavyweight of all-time?

UFC News: Miocic Looking To Continue Legacy

Miocic will certainly not be overlooked by Cormier going into this fight, as the 37-year-old’s victory last year proves that he has the traits that could overpower Cormier. Dana White has already revealed that the winner of this bout will be regarded as the best heavyweight in the company’s history. And, there is no doubting the naturally gifted boxing ability of Miocic.

Miocic had defended the Heavyweight Championship successfully on three occasions before that defeat against Cormier in 2018, as he beat Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santor and Francis Ngannou. Miocic responded emphatically from the defeat in 2018, as he beat Cormier via TKO, but with a win each, this could be regarded as the biggest trilogy fight the UFC has ever seen. There will be huge intrigue, but few could question that the winner on Saturday isn’t the greatest heavyweight to grace the octagon.
