There have already been a number of lucrative crossover events between boxing and MMA, and there could be more potential fights in the future. Some of the fighters have needed to come out and clarify their stance, while others have refused to shut the door on the prospect of fighting elsewhere.
There have been some fights that fans have already pleaded to make happen, but which of these crossover bouts could we potentially see before the end of next year?
UFC News: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Floyd Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather has already enjoyed success coming up against a UFC athlete; both financially and in terms of the result on the night. McGregor was outclassed against the American boxer, who has beaten some of the biggest stars in the history of boxing.
However, a rumoured bout between Khabib and Mayweather has been something that has been discussed for a number of years now, and the talks are only heating up again now following Mayweather revealing that he will be coming out of retirement in 2020.
Whether the American meant that remains to be seen, but Khabib would present a stern opponent. Khabib has never lost in the UFC and has already called out Mayweather in the past. It would certainly be a huge event, and would gain attention from around the world.
UFC News: Manny Pacquiao vs Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor announced that he was retiring from the UFC earlier in the year, which means that there have already been rumours circulating regarding his next step. Although, it is unlikely that he is actually officially retired from the octagon as he has retired on numerous occasions in the past.
However, if he has retired and is looking for a fight in boxing, then a bout against Manny Pacquiao would be a thrilling encounter.
There are very few boxers that are as skilled as Pacquiao, and at one time in his career, he was the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet. He has won The Ring Fighter of the Year award on three occasions, and a final fight for Pacquiao is reportedly in the works.
McGregor will still have a point to prove stepping back in the ring after he was beaten against Mayweather, but this could be a lucrative evening for both fighters and could be a more entertaining affair than the Mayweather and McGregor bout.
