Jessica Simpson recently opened up about her journey towards sobriety and how she felt as though alcohol was silencing her before she got sober. Here’s what she has to say.

In a new interview with Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the former chart topper opened up about how her day drinking used to be a huge problem for her family life. She told the show, “I was at that point in my life where my kids were growing older and they were watching every move that I made and I just really wanted clarity, I wanted to understand myself.”

She continued: “I thought it was making me brave, I thought it was making me confident, and it was actually the complete opposite, it was silencing me.” Jessica, who has often talked about getting therapy on her path to sobriety, said that she learned of her awareness of her problem and decided to make changes for the sake of her two children.

“My therapist was like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe somebody can cover that much trauma and fear and awareness,’” Simpson said. “It takes people their whole life to discover those things.”

Jessica also said that she received plenty of questions about her sobriety during the start of the coronavirus pandemic back in mid-March. There was concern that because she was spending time home again that she would eventually relapse. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all.

“People are like, ‘Don’t you want to drink during this pandemic? Oh my god, aren’t your kids driving you crazy?’” said Simpson. She added: “I’m like, ‘No, I do not want to drink.’ I have not wanted it. I feel like that’s a big blessing.”
