Danna Paola (Elite/La Doña) and more pay tribute to Selena

Danna Paola, star of Elite and La Doña, has been a busy girl. Throughout the lockdown situation, she’s been releasing new music. Plus, she’s done more than a few Instagram lives and other things to entertain fans. Her latest gig involved paying tribute to a Tejana legend. Here’s what you need to know.

Danna Paola helps make history

This has been a bit of a weird situation the past few months. Lots of events are cancelled, and the Daytime Emmys were a from-home thing. However, someone was eventually going to change things up. Enter Premios Juventud. The awards show is the first one to have the stars actually gathering at a venue. In this case, they filmed the show in Coral Gables, Florida. Danna Paola happened to be one of the artists invited to take part.

According to what we’ve read, the show mandated testing of everyone who appeared, and the parts we saw didn’t look too bad. They also had a bunch of screens at one point showing fans enjoying the show, applauding for their favorite artists. Something that we heard another organization sounds like they’ll copy. So, now that you got some background on the show, let’s talk about the one moment we sat down to watch.

Danna Paola pays tribute

The show included a tribute to Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. It’s been over 25 years since the singer passed, and it was clear how much she’s still loved. The tribute started with Karol G giving a brief speech about Selena. She spoke of how the singer has touched her entire generation, and how grateful she is for the singer’s influence. Selena was described as eternal, and praised for her style and example.

That’s when a brief video about Selena and her career aired, which gave way to Paola and others performing some of the star’s biggest hits. We seriously loved every second, and here’s why.

Danna Paola goes first

The tribute video ended with Selena doing the famous opening to “Como la Flor” at her Astrodome performance. We loved that the actual performance part featured Selena singing first. Soon, Danna Paola took over to perform the rest of the song. She also sang first when she and others did “Fotos y Recuerdos” to end the performance.

Other singers, including Natti Natasha, Ally Brooke, and Greecy also participated. They performed hits like “Amon Prohibido”, “Techno Cumbia”, and “Baila Esta Cumbia”. We seriously loved each singer, although we think only two really captured her fashion sense on stage.

The whole thing ended with A.B. Quintanilla III coming out to accept awards on his and Selena’s behalf. Overall, we thought the whole thing was done well, and we loved how the stage at one point mimicked the setup of her Astrodome show. Plus, the background dancers were all wearing replicas of one of Selena’s classic looks.
