Even though she’s been out of the spotlight for many years now, Cameron Diaz is finally opening up about her decision to quit Hollywood. The actress, who was once known as the highest-paid female star in the film and television industry, told Gwyneth Paltrow in an interview that she felt that it was time for her to step back and focus on other things in her life. Here’s what she has to say.
During a conversation with Gwyneth on “In goop Health: The Sessions,” the Charlie’s Angel star says that she found her work load so intense that she felt that it was one of the major reasons why she decided to step back from the spotlight. As many fans know, Cameron rose to fame back in 1994 when she appeared alongside Jim Carrey in The Mask.
Cameron Diaz Explains Why She Quit Acting
“It’s a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won’t understand it, I know you understand it, but it was so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there,” Cameron said, adding, “There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there.”
Realizing that she needed to put her own needs and priorities first, that’s when Cameron decided to step back and ultimately start focusing on her family life instead. In 2015 Cameron married her longtime boyfriend Benji Madden. This year the couple welcomed their first daughter together, Raddix.
“I had been going so hard for so long, working, making films, it’s such a grind. I didn’t make any space for my personal life,” she explained.
Cameron continued, “And then I decided to … to stop making movies, and really focus on my personal life, my personal relationships with my family, my friends, and then Benj and I met each other, and we got married pretty much immediately.”
