Carl Reiner, director, writer, producer, and actor has died at the age of 98. He is perhaps best remembered for creating “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, as well as many films. It is reported that Reiner died of natural causes Monday night in his home. This has been confirmed by his assistant, Judy Nagy, by Variety. Reiner won nine Emmy awards throughout his career, including 5 from “The Dick Van Dyke Show”. He is also the father of filmmaker Rob Reiner, who tweeted Tuesday morning, “Last night my dad passed away. As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light.”

Comedy Legend Carl Reiner Dies At 98
Even in his later years, Reiner remained a respected and versatile performer who also maintained a lively presence on social media. Along with creating such shows as “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, he was also a talented film director, directing other comedy legends like John Candy in Summer Rental, and Steve Martin in All of Me. In 1990, he also directed Sibling Rivalry starring Carrie Fisher, Kirstie Alley, and Bill Pullman.
Reiner was a man of many talents, also writing several films and television series, even as recent as 2011, where he wrote the story for an episode of The Cleveland Show. Several actors have shared their condolences for Reiner. Other comedians, like Jason Alexander, tweeted, “Carl Reiner was comedy genius. Often that genius made other funny people even funnier. But give him a stage and he could spin laughter out of any moment. I watched him do it time and again. His contributions to comedy are eternal. And a lovely man, as well.”
Alan Alda also tweeted out, “My friend Carl Reiner died last night. His talent will live on for a long time, but the loss of his kindness and decency leaves a hole in our hearts. We love you, Carl.”
A legend of American comedy, Carl Reiner will continue to live on in his work and bringing smiles to people’s faces. He lived a long, and successful life that will be studied and people will cherish his films, television series, and comedy. He is survived by his three children, Rob, Annie, and Lucas.
