CBS ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ (B&B) spoilers is saying hello and welcome to another throwback spoiler brought to you by CBS. Today, we’re previewing an episode from June 22, 2017 that tackled an important topic head on, and is just as important today as it was then.
What really brought this episode to life was the performance of Rome Flynn, who won Outstanding Younger Actor award. This is also his first and only Daytime Emmy win, making it important for that as well as the subject matter. This episode is deep on many levels as it tackled subject matter that remains an important topic to this day as we’ve continued along the trend of disrespecting and attacking one another over differing opinions is the norm.
CBS ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Spoilers Throwback For June 23: Confronting bigotry
The plan was a simple one: Maya Avant (Karla Mosley) was going to adopt Nicole Avant (Reign Edwards)’s baby since Nicole needed to be her surrogate so the baby would be a Forrester and Avant. Everything was going according to plan until Nicole’s father, Julius Avant (Obba Babatundé), turned his bigotry toward his daughter, Maya, who happened to be transgender.
Learning of this, Zende Dominguez (Rome Flynn), lost it, but calmed down enough to make an emotional please with his sister. He pointed out that Nicole was fine with giving the baby up for adoption before their father started in with his beliefs. It was a difficult battle as Nicole was caught between her father and doing the right thing, but eventually, Zende convinced her to do the right thing and sign the adoption papers.

CBS ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Spoilers Throwback For June 23: More than a story
As is often the case, daytime television often uses real world incidents to inspire their stories, and this was no exception. While CBS “The Bold and the Beautiful” Spoilers can’t point to the specific inspiration for this, it was transgender rights were a huge topic of discussion going back a few years before this. At least, that’s about when major media markets started reporting on it.
This episode helps bring to light some of the prejudices transgender people face for simply being different. Like anyone else, they have no more choice over how they truly feel. The difference is, they take active measures to alter their appearance to match the inner them. It’s something many of us are afraid to do because it could change how those close to us view us. It’s difficult stepping out and being what feels normal instead of what’s talked about as being normal.
It’s a personal journey that we don’t all need to walk, but respecting another for their differences whether we agree or not is one we could all remember. What are your thoughts on the episode?
