ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal we continued Sonny and Carly Corinthos (Maurice Benard/Laura Wright) week with an emotion, engaging choice. The episode, first aired on September 24, 2013, took a hard look at a topic close to Benard’s heart—mental health. However, it also gave us other moments and showed us something. Here’s what you need to know.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Painful choice
First of all, let’s talk about Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) and Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson). We’d seen references to a story where Maxie lied about a baby she carried. With this episode, we got to see some of the immediate fallout. Anderson showed a whole other side to himself as Spinelli argued over their baby. The emotion radiated from the actor, and it was great to see him in such a dramatic moment. We’re used to the fun, awkward Spinelli who’s going on about some tech thing of formally greeting friends.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sonny and Carly week offers heartbreaking episode
As for Storms, these flashbacks gave us a taste of what she is capable of, and the amazing performances ahead, should they continue where they left off and let her play out learning of Peter August’s (Wes Ramsey) betrayal.
As a side note, it was both amusing and sad to watch Lulu and Dante Falconeri (Emme Rylan/Dominic Zamprogna) as they cared for the child they thought was theirs. We’ve enjoyed getting to see these two together under happy circumstances, as we started watching after he left. We were just in time to see his brief PTSD-filled return, and it makes us hopeful a return for the character is ahead.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Out of control
As for the main story, Carly and Sonny argued at home after he’d caused a scene at Morgan Corinthos’ (Bryan Craig) wedding reception. This scene would have a bad effect on Morgan and Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) bond, as well as lead to some complicated romantic dynamics. But the outburst had another consequence.
Carly realized that Sonny was off his lithium, and she confronted him about his choices. It’s a story that can be far too common in real life, so we loved that he played this out and showed people how dangerous that can be, as well as how one can stay on track with the support of people they love. Wright was amazing as Carly called her husband out for what he’d done, and how he was endangering himself and others. The scene turned heartbreaking when Sonny admitted to his reasons for stopping his meds, as well as the moment when she finally got through to him.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: What we thought
Honestly, this was, for us, one of the most gripping episodes of the show yet. It was filled with such great writing and acting, a combination that made us want much more. The same happened with the previous look at the Metro Court hostage crisis. We hate to say it, but these two episodes (as well as our look at Nurses’ Ball moments) showed us a difference in the show. One we hope can be recaptured when filming resumes. Because at this point, we don’t think we’d chose any of the new episodes we’d been watching over the ones we just saw.
