Lifetime ‘Married at First Sight’ Spoilers shows that the infamous Katie Conrad has been receiving a massive amount of backlash online. After it was revealed that Katie not only went on a secret “date” with cast member Zach Justice, but also cheated on fan-favorite Derek Sherman during their marriage, viewers became emotional. Though Katie and Derek’s relationship ended a mere two weeks post-Decision Day, Derek has surprisingly defended Katie online. Fellow castmate Mindy Shiben has also been trying to protect Katie from the cyber-hate. 

Despite Katie’s poor actions during their marriage, Derek is proving himself to be a stand-up gentleman. In an Instagram post on April 22, Derek urged fans: “Please try to go easy on Katie.” He stated, “This was a hard situation for the both of us. I may not believe she was ready to get married, but it’s still no reason for cyber bullying.” Derek explained further, “She has an absolutely amazing family, and I can only imagine how hard it’s been for them…”

Mindy posted a similar defense on April 22. She wrote: “Today I am torn. While I am beyond grateful for the love and support, my heart hurts to see a close friend suffer from #cyberbullying.” Mindy posted a photo of her and Katie together, captioning, “We’ve all done things we aren’t proud of. Imagine those things being broadcasted on national television and criticized by millions of people… I beg everyone to #STOPCYBERBULLYING.”

Katie attempted to clear the air for MAFS viewers, defending her actions on multiple levels. She maintained that her private meeting with Zach was nothing more than a friendly get-together. “It was not a date,” Katie said. “We got drinks AS FRIENDS to talk about the experiences we had on the show. I also told Mindy about it [and didn’t] do anything to be shady.” Katie elaborated, “[Derek and I] had already split up when the ‘cheating’ happened. If you still consider that cheating… please remember we were matched by the experts and did not pick each other to commit…”

Katie then released another statement on April 24, likely due to continued push-back online. “This was one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever had… I’m not perfect. I’ve acknowledged mistakes and maybe that wasn’t shown, but I have.”

Katie insisted, “I am not the person I look like on the show.
