ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH spoilers finds that if you’ve been a fan of the show for the past decade, then you’ll recognize the name Claudia Zacchara as one of the craziest super B’s in all of GH history. She was played by Sarah Brown, who had previously originated the role of Carly Corinthos, who, at the time was being played by her current actress, Laura Wright. Sarah Brown had said that there was no plans for her to reprise the role of Carly, so she was signed on as a new character, Claudia Zacchara. She was the daughter of mentally unhinged crime Lord Anthony Zacchara (Bruce Weitz) and sister to Johnny Zacchara (Brandon Barash).
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Girlboss before girlbosses were cool
Claudia ran the mob with her uncle Rudy in Italy, and even though she was intended as a love interest for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) you really didn’t see a lot of love there. Sexual attraction? Sure. Chemistry? You betcha. But as for love… that really wasn’t something that was in the cards for Sonny and Claudia. They fell into bed together but not all hookups turn into romances. Even though Brown had hopes for the two to end up in love and let me tell you that would have changed the Port Charles landscape quite a bit. Perhaps if Claudia had been the one st Sonny’s side then ol’ Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) would have thought twice about attacking… then again considering just how crazy and desperate she got towards the end, maybe she would have been the reason for the hit.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Why Sonny and Claudia didn’t work
Claudia was built up to be a good, interesting female villain but in the end she got really crazy and really desperate. Her last time in Port Charles was the day she tried to steal Carly’s baby, Josslyn Jacks (now played by Eden McCoy) poor Carly had just given birth and Claudia had helped her but not without kidnapping her first and then tracking her to the cabin she had crawled off to to give birth in after they had crashed the car. It was Michael Corinthos (now played by Chad Duell) who came in like gangbusters, and hit Claudia with an axe, killing her instantly and good thing because I can’t imagine Joss without Carly. Brown herself said because of a change in writers at GH the character ended up being very inconsistent and in the end she said that the decision to kill her off was a good one because it was time for her narrative to come to an end. We feel this deep within our souls, Sarah.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Playing unlikeable a little too well
For me personally the character never quite caught on, specifically with Sonny simply because she felt a bit too powerful and a bit too unhinged for him. The character came off as downright unlikeable at times (no shade to Brown, who played unlikeable really well) and I did not feel the need to root for her at all. In fact usually when I would see her on-screen I would have the urge to flip the channel but that’s probably a personal preference there. Again, no shade intended. Still though… its interesting to think about how GH would have been if two sinners cut from the same cloth had ended up running the Corinthos coffee business. Stay tuned!!!
