Rubí spoilers reveal the latest offering from Televisa and Univision premiered Tuesday, January 21st. The first episode was a major hit, and it’s beat Telemundo’s El Señor de Los Cielos pretty much every night. In fact, Univision’s whole line up is winning over their competitor. So, what’s the deal with this show? We’ve got the details, as well as a few highlights of week one.

    Rubí Spoilers: To start

The series follows the story of a young woman named Rubí Pérez (Camila Sodi). She doesn’t like being poor and is willing to do anything to improve her lot in life. Supposedly, she’s ruined the life of many a man, and she now lives in total isolation, but a journalist, Carla Rangel (Ela Velden), is determined to get her story. The show is based on a short story by Yolanda Vargas Dulché, according to its Wikipedia page. Since the story came out, there have been four versions of this novela, with the earliest coming out in 1968. The fourth is, of course, the current version. So, how’s it shaping up?

    Rubí spoilers: Comparisons

There’s been a lot of talk online about this show. Some people are loving it. Others can’t help comparing it and the lead actress to the classic 2004 version starring Bárbara Mori. However, those ratings indicate people are here for Camila’s take on the character. We have to say that we’re enjoying this story as well. Let’s take a look at some of the moments from week one.

    Rubí spoilers: The Bad

We said Rubí is a troublemaker. Rubí spoilers indicate she has no regard for others in her quest for riches. In the premiere week alone, she talked a professor into meeting with her after she found out the money for her schooling fell through. She actually pretended to cry on his shoulder, then took a picture that made it look like he came on to her. Just before she did, there was an amusing moment with a secretary, where she bet her “ugly ceramic” Rubí would, in fact, be seen by her teacher. She made sure to grab it on the way out.

Her worst move, however, hurt her friend Maribel de la Fuente (Kimberly Dos Ramos). Maribel lost a leg and wears a prosthetic. She confessed to Rubi she’s afraid of telling her new love, Héctor Ferrer (Rodrigo Guirao), about it. Rubí, of course, stages an accidental spill that exposes the handicap before Maribel could work up the nerve. There is a good side to the character, though.

    Rubí Spoilers: Soft spot

It seems Rubí has a soft spot for her niece, Fernanda. In one scene, Fernanda is going on about how she wants to be Rubí when she grows up. Rubí insists all she needs to do is be herself. Also, when Fernanda wandered off, Rubí was clearly distressed about the disappearance.

On a side note, we love how the action moves back and forth 20 years. Rubí spoilers reveal we watch the journalist today interview her, while going back in time to see how Rubí’s story played out. For the future scenes, Camila dons a dark look, and the setting is filled with mystery, as is fitting a mysterious recluse. We’re looking forward to what comes next.

She’s a recent Days of Our Lives convert, having grown up on the nighttime shows of the '90s. She’s also an accomplished writer in many fields, including paranormal fiction. Jamie loves the crazy twists that Soap Opera writers come up with, even though she's sometimes yelling at the characters. As a published and accomplished writer, she knows how to get into the minds of the writers and is usually bang on in predicting plot twists before they come to life. When she’s not writing for Daily Soap Dish, Jamie binge watches telenovelas as a way to improve her Spanish. They also fuel her muse, which tends to upset her readers.
