TLC Sister Wives Spoilers: find that Sister Wives, became incredibly popular when it first aired on the network. As the new season is about to air, we have many questions about this polygamous family. Kody Brown is the husband to his wives and they now live in Flagstaff, Arizona. Why did they move there? There have been quite a few run ins with the police for the Browns so they have tried their best to stay off the grid and avoid them, although, being on television is not the way to do it!
TLC Sister Wives Spoilers: How is This Family Legal?
Polygamy is illegal in every state in America, so how is it possible that Kody Brown has so many wives? Kody has four wives now and when we look back on the history of polygamy, it was made illegal in 1852. It was once practiced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as Mormons. A polygamous family is one man with more than one wife. Kody is married to Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. Meri and Kody did get a divorce in 2014, but she is still on the show and still a big part of the family.
TLC Sister Wives Spoilers: Is the Brown family Legal if Polygamy is Not?
Hiding their lifestyle is clearly not something the Brown’s have been doing. Many of their neighbors do not like their lifestyle and have reported them to the police. When they lived in Vegas, they all had their own house and that worked out really well for awhile. Kody decided to move the family to Arizona and that is where the police got called on them just days after their arrival.
When investigators have looked at the paperwork of this family, Kody is only legally married to Robyn. He was spiritually married to Janelle in 1993 and spiritually married to Christine in 1994. These spiritual marriages may count in the church, but they are not legal and binding. He only legally married Robyn, after he and Meri divorced, so that they could adopt a child.
In the newest season of Sister Wives, we may see even more legal trouble coming to the family. The trailer shows that one of the new neighbors does call the police on them again. After looking at the paperwork though, Kody isn’t married to all of them, just one. He does have homes for them and the only thing that connects them is their spirituality. Clearly, the Browns have thought about the loop holes with this arrangement that they have. Let’s hope that the police think of it that way too!
