Coronation Street News: Deaf Interpreter Honoured By Prince William

Coronation Street Spoilers finds that  it has been a busy few weeks for the Royal Family as they deal with the consequences of the decision made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, Prince William was back on royal duties yesterday as he honoured a person that will be familiar to fans of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Prince William honoured Alex Duguid with an MBE for his services to deaf people. William also made the effort to congratulate Duguid on his honour by trying his hand as sign language when handing over the MBE.

Coronation Street Spoilers: Familiar Face For Soap Fans

Duguid will be no stranger to anybody who is a fan of the soaps, as he has been the interpreter for both soaps for an extended period of time. He also rose to fame when one of his clips when viral on social media last year. In that clip, Duguid appeared on screen at the beginning of the episode and caused Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) to look shocked. It was a funny moment that was shared online for weeks afterwards. Prince William congratulated the recipient of the award, to which he replied ‘thank you’.

Duguid has been the interpreter for Emmerdale and Coronation Street for decades. But he has also gone further with his work for the deaf community, as he helps hundreds of people learn the skill to communicate effectively. He has been teaching sign language for the past 30 years. Duguid lost his hearing at the age of three. The accident occurred after he had fallen over and damaged his cheekbone.
