TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers: Is Papa Plath On The Verge Of A Breakdown? Is His Calm & Collected Nature Just A Cover For The Show?
TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers is asking if while watching the season finale of Plathville, did anyone else get a distinct feeling that Papa Plath’s cool-as a cucumber exterior may just be all an act? I sure did. There were several points in which I thought ol’ Barry was going to blow his top. Most of which happened at Moriah’s surprise party, one of which happened in one the little off-screen moments but he reined himself in rather masterfully. However, it seems that bubbling under the surface is some fire and brimstone that’s just waiting to get out.
TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers: Instance 1 – The Concert
When Moriah received concert tickets that were of secular, country music origin, even though it’s for a Carrie Underwood concert, the same Carrie Underwood who sang “Jesus Take The Wheel”, Papa Plath, while he remained cool at the party itself had a somewhat adverse reaction to the cameras in his ‘off-screen’ moment. He plainly said that he and Kim were not a fan of country music and that he didn’t like the message that the lyrics sent, about going out and getting drunk or going out and having sex and he thinks that it would send the wrong kind of message to Moriah.
While he has every right to be concerned about his daughter, it’s not like she was going alone. And it just makes him come off as rather paranoid and insecure. Is he really so afraid that he failed so much as a parent that Moriah’s going to go off the rails at one measly concert? Come on, lighten up, Dad!
TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers: Instance 2 – The One Way Ticket
All was going well, he had just digested the whole idea, Moriah, going to a secular, country concert and had taken that like a champ. But then Moriah made her announcement that she was going to travel up to Minnesota with Olivia and that while it would be two going up there, there would only be one coming back. It was a one-way ticket to Minnesota for Moriah. Papa Plath looked like he had just swallowed a fish whole.
I’m not sure why considering that this Grandma and Grandpa that she talked about are the same people that raised him. But no, I think I get it, the fact of the matter is, the rest of Barry’s family is really, really normal and they’re wondering how on earth he got mixed up in this uber-conservative movement according to some sources. So now he’s probably worried that Moriah will get there and like this new, less conservative, more conventional lifestyle better and decide to stay.
TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers: Instance 3 – Ethan’s Beer
The third thing was that while at this surprise birthday dinner, Ethan ordered a beer. A beer! In front of his uber-conservative, very dry, Mom and Dad. Did anyone catch the gleeful grin on his face as he took the sip of that beer? I sure did and I cracked up!
Obviously, Ethan’s rebelling in a way that he never got to as a child and it’s really rewarding for him. The thing is, this kind of rebellion doesn’t really make any personal on Kim and Barry because Ethan is already grown and out of the house unless you count the scandalized looks. This time not only did you sense Barry’s horror, but Kim’s was palpable. Also, Isaac looked at Ethan like he was his hero. I think it’s safe to say that if Ethan is around, Isaac’s 21st birthday party is going to be lit!
TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers: Still Waters Run Deep
But getting back to Papa Plath, I get a vibe off of him that although he’s not really overt about it he’s a bit more controlling than he lets on. We see Barry and while we don’t see ‘fun dad’ we see a guy that seems, on the surface, to be laid back about things, content to follow Kim’s lead and Kim does a lot of the leading, or at least that’s what it looks like.
Behind the scenes, it’s probably Barry who is the one in power. After all, that would make the most sense, considering they live their lives in a very legalistic manner in spite of not actually belonging to a church of any kind.
TLC ‘Welcome To Plathville’ Spoilers: What Will Upset The Powder Keg?
I’ll tell you though, tonight when those instances happened I expected Barry to go off the rails preaching fire and brimstone and I think he almost did in the off-screen moment when he was talking about the lyrics to country music songs. I don’t know why he’s so afraid though, just because a kid hears something doesn’t mean that they’re automatically going to think that it’s a good idea.
I think in season 2 (if there is indeed a season 2) we may get to see Barry meltdown a bit, I think we may have tested his patience a bit with this season finale. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what actually sets him off. Stay tuned!!!
