Netflix has yet another original series coming early next year. Set to release on January 31st, Ragnorak will be unleashed. No, this isn’t a Marvel film about the God of Thunder, Thor. Instead, this is a story about the Norse story of Ragnarok, the end of days. Many Marvel fans have been confused about this, and it shows in the comment sections of posts and videos. Marvel did not create the mythology, but rather borrow it for some creative works.
Ragnarok has been given its second official teaser on Netflix today and does its job well. I have been teased, and want more. For English speakers, it is subtitled, but that shouldn’t be any reason to not watch it! It looks to have a very interesting story and the main actor isn’t bad at all!
Netflix’s ‘Ragnarok’ – Summary
So before we all get too excited about it, what is it about? While it will obviously follow Norse mythology, will we see any Gods, and who is our main character? According to a summary on IMDB, “In the small fictional town of Edda coming of age people are forced to respond to climate changes. The ice caps are melting at a rate no one had anticipated. People go through long periods of drought. The winters are too warm. More and more frequently, people experience extreme cold bursts. In all ways extreme weather conditions. The world is changing, and some might claim that we’re heading towards a new Ragnarok. Unless someone intervenes in time.”
While this may just sound like a generic The Day After Tomorrow type disaster project, the trailer shows us something completely different. Our main “hero”, Magne (David Stakston) feels he has changed and now possesses powerful abilities. David Stakston is known for his role as Magnus Fossbaken in Skam. This will be only his second role and to tackle an original series from Netflix is no joke. In Ragnarok, Magne questions if he’s become invincible, and even suggests he might be a God.
A God Of Thunder?
While I said earlier that this is indeed not a Marvel Thor film, it is possible Magne is Thor. Or at least, someone of relation. In the trailer, we do some large bursts of lightning, which would suggest the God of Thunder. Though, is Magne actually Thor, or been infused with his powers? Or could it just be a small easter egg for viewers telling us we will get a peek at him?
While it’s too early to know for sure, one thing is known. Ragnarok looks to be an interesting series. I look forward to seeing the story of Magne and what has happened to the young man. Did him moving to this town have something to do with the way he feels or could he be a descendant of some Norse Gods? We will just have to wait and see January 31!
