Latest Trailer For 'Top Gun: Maverick': Will Tom Cruise Ever Run Out Of Gas?

Top Gun flew into everyone’s hearts in 1986. Starring Tom Cruise as the crazy fighter pilot, Maverick, and Val Kilmer as Iceman, it was a box office smash. It caused a rush of young men to sign up for the United States Navy with its spectacular aerial footage. It really made you feel as though you were the one in the cockpit, flying over the ocean. Top Gun would go on to be the highest-grossing film of 1986 and cemented some of the most quoted lines ever!

Now, 34 years after the release of Top Gun, and 4,000 bottles of de-aging cream later, Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as Maverick in the sequel. Originally, after the completion of the original, they had written a sequel shortly after. Though, Cruise didn’t have any interest in it. He seems to have changed his tune after three decades, and we couldn’t be happier!

Latest Trailer For ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Top Gun: Maverick is the long-awaited sequel that we all know we want! Tom Cruise has an affinity for making films. Not just films, but films that span the test of time. This will likely be no different! According to a summary on IMDB, “After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.”

Top Gun: Maverick, aside from Tom Cruise will star Miles Teller (Whiplash, War Dogs), Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind), Jon Hamm (Mad Men, The Town) and even see the return of Iceman himself, Val Kilmer!

    An Event Film

There are films that come out that are good. There are films that are bad. Movies come out that are summer blockbusters. Then there are the events. Event films feel so much bigger than just a two-hour movie but feel like something you’ve been waiting a lifetime for. Something that will make a bigger splash than just another film being released.

Top Gun: Maverick will be an event movie. Everyone, regardless if you like Tom Cruise, or you feel like what’s the big deal, will still most likely see it. It’s too big. To see one of the greatest action stars ever, reprise a role that made him gigantic 34 years ago, and still look like he hasn’t missed a beat. Very few have been able to do this. Stallone with Rambo, Schwarzeneggar with Terminator, Cruise with Maverick.

Hell, Cruise has been doing Mission Impossible films forever, and each is bigger and better than the last. He has something that very few humans do. In an interview with Conan, Cruise said something that you rarely hear from actors today, “I’m here to entertain you, that’s the privilege of my job.” Spoken like a true legend.

You can catch Top Gun: Maverick next Summer 2020!
