Disappointed fans have taken to Twitter to express their surprise after hearing the news that popular Netflix show, Mystery Science Theatre 3000 had been cancelled after only two series! The TV series, which tells the story about a host and his robot friends as they watch a different movie in each new episodes and had a cult watching them.
Mystery Science Theatre 3000 star, Jonah Ray Rodriguez announced on his Twitter page that the show wouldn’t be returning to Netflix.
Making reference to some of the other shows that the streaming giant has cancelled, he wrote: “So, Netflix decided to not do another season of MST3K. We are off to Get Down in Lilyhammer while the OA helps us take it One Day at a Time. We will be in group therapy with Tuca & Bertie, Jessica Jones, & Lady Dynamite. The sessions will be run by Gypsy (w/ Naomi Watts).”
He continued: “We don’t know what the future holds for the show, it always seemed to figure out how to survive. From Comedy Central to SyFy. Then kept alive by RIFFTRAX & Cinematic Titanic. whatever happens, I want everybody to know that getting a chance to be on this show was a dream come true.”
Fans of the show were really disappointed, as one wrote:
“Argh, this sucks, sorry man. You did great stuff with the show!” Another added: “Such a bummer, I’ve watched and rewatched the new seasons more than anything lately. You really brought it.”
Other people also took to their Twitter accounts to share stories about what the Netflix show meant to them, with one writing: “No word of a lie, watching the new eps of MST3K on Netflix were some of the happiest times I had while recovering from cancer surgery.”
Joel Hodgson, the creator of the show also reacted, making comment about its cancellation, explaining: “It’s not the end of MST3K, It’s just the end of the first chapter of bringing back MST3K.”
Mystery Science Theatre 3000 is a story set in the near future. A third-generation mad scientist named Kinga Forrester and her flunky, called Max lures a Gizmonic institute employee into the dark side of the moon. These mad scientists makes him watch scary movies with his robot friends. The mad scientists watch and study the effects of these movies on his mind.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 is produced by Alternaversal Productions, LLC. The popular TV show, which is much loved by viewers premiered on KTMA-TV (now known as WUCW) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on 24th of November,1988.
