There are a lot of questions in the trial today. Most relate to the officials’ handling of the case. Through various witnesses, the prosecution has a bad day. Investigators are called into question for not keeping the original interrogation notes. A medical examiner is called out for saying Selena’s death is a homicide when his job is only to tell the specifics of the situation: blood loss, oxygen depravation, etc. There’s also drama around Pete Riviera (Mauricio Isaac) having a Selena poster in his office.

During the post-trial show, her legal experts are in agreement this was a bad day for the prosecution. There was a bright spot for them, though. The details of Selena’s run to the lobby and her injury are seen as a positive by the experts. They feel the fact Selena chose to run rather than let her nurse friend help shows that she feared Yolanda Saldívar (Damayanti Quintanar). They believe Selena herself testified through that information.
El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Next of kin
One thing that stuck out in her minds also came during the medical talk. When discussing Selena’s treatment, they reveal Abraham Quintanilla (Jorge Zárate) was listed as Selena’s Next of Kin. Considering she was married at the time, that should have been Chris Pérez (Daniel Elbittar). A spouse automatically gets the right to make decisions in this situation. The defense apparently agreed and questioned this detail. While the point they were trying to get to ultimately fell flat, it’s an interesting note when taken alongside earlier talk of Abraham’s controlling nature.

The story goes back a bit in time after the accusations about Yolanda came out. Selena is seen having some problems with her bank. She can’t get things done without Yolanda’s signature. Selena eventually decides not to argue further over the phone and promises that she and Yolanda will come to take care of some paperwork.

As for Yolanda, Maria Celeste gets a taste of the lies and manipulation that Yolanda has been accused of. Her sister had told Maria Celeste that Yolanda had cancer, something that concerned Maria Celeste. She decides to follow up. A phone call to check in with her sister reveals that it was only a scare. Maria Celeste keeps digging and learns that it was all a lie. She’s angry, and now sees how Selena might have been manipulated by her.
El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Strange visit
A strange part comes during the post-trial book research. Maria Celeste visits a man who bought Big Bertha. That was Selena’s tour bus, and he got it for a great price. He’s planning to use it as a museum. First, he’s going to rent it back to the Quintanillas for the Selena movie.
While Maria Celeste visits with him, he shows a hairbrush with hair still in it and more. He also managed to get crime scene photos, although he won’t say how he got them. Maria Celeste seems weirded out about that, as are we.
During the visit, she occasionally spaces out and sees Selena. She’s talking to her mother about having a child, writing a song with the band, and grabbing pizza. It’s an interesting touch that delves into the idea of spirits living on.
