Coronation Street Spoilers: Success At Awards Ceremony
Her performances over the past number of months have claimed critical acclaim from far and wide, and that was recognised as it was awarded the Best Continuing Drama Story line.
There was also an award for Rob Mallard, who portrays Sinead’s husband, Daniel Osbourne, as he picked up the award for Best Performance in a Continuing Drama.
Fans were delighted to see the two pictured together again following their final scenes that aired over a month ago. They collected the first award together and delivered an impassioned speech about the importance of telling this story.
Speaking about the effect that the final scenes had on her, she said: “Walking away from filming and watching it on Monday, that part of me was grieving Sinead, and it’s bizarre, but I’ve started doing like a fitness thing to safeguard myself, and that’s helping me. Watching her die was awful, but it’s raising awareness.”
Coronation Street Spoilers: Storyline’s Impact
The impact from the story that Coronation Street has told through Sinead has had a profound effect. There was a spike in the number of women attending screenings for cervical cancer in the aftermath from the emotional scenes.
GP’s have said that these screenings can help prevent 75% of cancers and have praised the soap for raising awareness. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust are one of the helplines available, and they spoke glowingly about the impact that the soap has had.
The trust said: “We were really pleased that Coronation Street asked us to advise on this story line and throughout the year they’ve been committed to portraying it as accurately as possible. It has been great to collaborate and represent a relatively rare cancer on such a huge platform.”
Coronation Street Spoilers: Daniel’s Heartbreak
The storyline hasn’t ended yet, and viewers are now witnessing the long-lasting effects on her widowed husband. Daniel will be grieving for months to come over the loss of his wife, and he spoke about what fans could expect after the awards ceremony.
He said: “I always see [the story] as being in split into two, the first part was leading up to the death, and the other is about being a widower at a young age, and not knowing how to navigate that. “Sinead’s death was a peak, but this story won’t be winding down anytime soon.”
