‘Bold and Beautiful’ (B&B) Spoilers finds that as we all know, recently Thomas offered Hope a compromise, a rather indecent compromise. In exchange for one night of passion he has agreed to give Hope parental rights over Douglas. That’s right just one night of passion, not a relationship, not an extended relationship, not even friends with benefits, this is just one night of passion in exchange for legal rights over his son. I think I speak for everyone when I say – WHAT?!
‘Bold and the Beautiful’ Spoilers: Did B&B Cross the Line? Shocking Sex For Douglas Custody Exchange Angle Scandalizes Soap World!
However, we all have to remember that essentially, Thomas Forrester is just a fictional character and his actions have no ramifications in the real world, but the fact of the matter is, his actions are being written by actual people who live in the real world. Which, again, begs the question, WHAT?! I just wonder what the writers’ room meetings look like, I would like to sit in on one of those one day and just see how they plan on what they’re going to do next. Do they just sit around thinking of potentially inflammatory story lines to play out for the fan base? “Let’s offend all the single parents this week! Thomas selling out his kid for one night with Hope? Sure, sounds like something he’d do. Yup, we don’t need that demographic!”

‘Bold and Beautiful’ Spoilers: Did B&B cross the line?
Honestly, they aren’t really being fair to Thomas as a character. Who on earth, that is an actual parent, would sell out legal rights to their only child for one night with someone? Not any parent I know. Then again maybe I’m just lucky enough not to know any truly bad parents (a blessing in itself) but there’s a certain thing you have to keep in mind when writing for characters and that is what kind of person do you really want to portray here? And if you want to portray someone who’s out of their mind, sex-crazed and ultimately not a good person, okay then, but make sure that the character has enough integrity so that they’ll be able to come back from such a blow. Unfortunately, Thomas is… not there yet.
He has never established himself as a good person. Granted, he never exactly established himself as a bad person before now but if that’s what they’re trying to convey then they are succeeding beyond their wildest dreams. The thing is, at the rate they’re going, Thomas will never be able to be seen as anything but a villain. When his redemption arc does come around (and, it ultimately will), it’s going to be very hard won and some people who might have rooted for him in the beginning will be so turned off that they won’t be able to be won back.

They’re not doing Hope Logan any favors either. Right now she’s seen as pretty desperate and needy and maybe even a little mental, with her actions toward Thomas and Douglas. What woman tries to wrest control of a son from his Father? Unless the child is in imminent danger? The answer to that is, not many. And Douglas was not in imminent danger. Thomas wasn’t drinking or using drugs he had Douglas staying with Ridge and Brooke at Brooke’s mansion while he crashed on his friend’s couch and otherwise got his life together. As far as parenting goes I’d say he was pretty responsible.
The Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Hope’s Push For Douglas, Far-Fetched
Hope making the grab for Douglas just seemed a little far-fetched. Why would she go that far? Aside from more responsibility what could she possibly have to gain from getting little Douglas away from his Dad? Not all that much. Besides that, she’s a new Mom herself and if chasing after a soon to be one year old isn’t enough responsibility for her then maybe Hope needs to see someone about her caffeine addiction or something. Seriously though, Hope didn’t strike me as the type to want to be a Mom to everyone, just to the little girl she lost. The way they’re portraying her, Hope’s going to end up one of those cat ladies in about another decade. You know the ones, they wind up on the news.

Another character that I feel that they’re mistreating is Brooke Logan. Yes, okay, she’s a Mama Bear, we get it. She’ll do anything for her daughter, but when the threats are no longer imminent, most Moms just kind of go back to their daily life. Brooke has doubled-down and has kind of started seeing shadows that aren’t there. Anytime there’s even a mention of Thomas she hits the roof. Considering she’s his stepmom, his very name shouldn’t incense her that much, but since when has family ever mattered that much in the B&B-verse? If it did we wouldn’t have had the Hope/Thomas wedding a few months back because they would have realized that “Hey, we’re actually step-siblings, this is weird!” Also, being from the deep south myself, it weirded me out and that means that it’s pretty weird. (Like, Game of Thrones level weird.)
Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Brooke and Hope
But getting back to Brooke, it just seems like she’s trying to protect her teenage daughter rather than her daughter who’s a married woman. If Hope were still say, 15 years old then I could see this level of animosity towards Thomas but Hope is a fully grown adult woman. This doesn’t take away the maternal instinct by a long shot, but she should have a little more respect for the adult that Hope is and that’s not really her fault that’s the fault of the writing staff because that’s the way they writer her. As someone who can’t see Hope past high school or early college age and Brooke strikes me as a woman who is guided more by her brain than that.
Her attitude toward Ridge is, while not completely baffling is just unrealistic for someone who’s been married to him for as long as she has and claims to love him as much as she does. Especially after they made a pact not to meddle in their children’s lives as Stephanie Forrester had meddled in theirs decades before. Is this some unconscious revenge on Brooke’s part? Since it didn’t ‘kill’ her, is that the reason she’s sort of stepped into meddling matriarch’s Stephanie’s shoes? Okay if that’s her character, alright go ahead, but I don’t see her as the type to discount her husband’s wishes completely. Yes, you could argue that Ridge cheated on her and caused this but this whole disregarding of Ridge’s feelings started way before he ever laid eyes on Shauna Fulton, just saying. This angle and these characters could be handled a lot better so can we leave this angle in 2019? Thanks.
