Wednesday, July 24th La Reina del Sur spoilers find Epifanio Vargas (Humberto Zurita) looking a little crazy, César “Batman” Güemes (Alejandro Calva) on the run, and a face-off between Teresa Mendoza (Kate del Castillo) and Zurdo Villa (Flavio Medina). If you missed it, let’s get to today’s La Reina del Sur recap.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: The attempt
Epifanio and Genoveva Alcalá (Kika Edgar) attend a rally with Alejandro Alcalá (Mark Tacher), who wasn’t expecting little sis to be there. He also wasn’t expecting Epi to be forewarned.
As Epifanio heads to the stage, he’s got Teresa and Alejandro’s warnings running through his mind. After a quick “rescue” from a shady character in the crowd, Epi is on stage and in his element. Following through on the public assassination idea, Epi is shot during the speech.
What Alejandro didn’t know is, Epifanio was wearing a bullet-proof vest. Epi is rushed to the hospital with Genoveva by his side.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: On the run
Unfortunately for Batman, he was also at the rally. He also happened to have a gun, which he was aiming at Epi. It’s obvious he didn’t pull the trigger, though, as Batman turns and looks surprised right after the shot rang out.
Having been spotted there with a weapon, Batman runs to avoid getting hauled in for something he didn’t do. He ends up calling Sheila (Cuca Escribano) to get him, saying that Teresa is the only one who can help him out of this. Like the girl doesn’t have enough problems, ¿verdad?
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Calvary’s arrived
Meanwhile, Epifanio has new backup. It seems that after the whole public assassination attempt, the current president has put the military in charge of his security. They’ll be keeping an eye on him from now on. Epi’s glad, and suggests a careful interrogation of Batman when he’s found. He’s convinced there was an accomplice close to him.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: ¿Está loco?
Of course, Epi already knows who it is, but he doesn’t say so in front of the military. Probably because of the fight he was having just before they came in.
Epi had accused Alejandro of trying to kill him, working for the DEA, and planning to ultimately take his place as president. At first, Genoveva believes Epi, but with Alejandro there now, she’s not so sure. Alejandro is doing a pretty good job of playing innocent and putting doubt elsewhere. He’s also bringing up a lot of uncomfortable questions about Epi’s activities. Like kidnapping, for one.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Change in plans
Alejandro, who ends up quitting the campaign in the heat of the fight, later meets up with his latest accomplice and flips out about the failed attempt and getting accused.
No worries, though. Apparently, they were planning to do the deed in a more private way. Now we’re wondering if they knew Francesco Belmondo (Raoul Bova) was listening in on the plot. Looks like Alejandro, by the way, is still the one who’s expected to do the deed. And suddenly government inefficiency is taking on a whole new meaning. Like, really? They want the guy Epi accused to do the deed? The same one they want to make president? That’s not going to be suspicious at all…
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Face-off
Teresa and Francesco are (knowingly) followed by Zurdo and his people today. They allow the bad guys to track them to a warehouse where Zurdo’s money is being held—money that’s already been doused in gas. She holds the money hostage with a Molotov cocktail as she demands to know how he found her.
The pair fights over who did what to who and why, with Teresa asserting she actually had affection for Zurdo. But when her daughter was at stake, everything is fair game. The not-talking Zurdo refuses to say how he found her, so Teresa lights the pile of cash on fire before escaping with Francesco.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Goodbye
It seems sometime after the confrontation, Teresa suddenly remembers the tracker implanted in her foot. With Francesco’s assistance, she gets it removed. They then leave the tracker in another of Zurdo’s warehouses. It’s accompanied by a goodbye note. As Zurdo and his people find it, he says that they’ve lost her forever. We’re not betting on that one…
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Trouble ahead
We end this episode with a shot of Triana (Aroha Hafez) standing outside the Aljarafe house. If those promos are any indication, we’ll be biting out nails through the whole thing…
