Your Tuesday, July 17th La Reina del Sur spoilers tease a shocking twist, and one very angry mama. It also finds Francesco Belmondo (Raoul Bova) still in a precarious position with bosses that don’t really trust him. If you missed the action, let’s get to your La Reina del Sur recap.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Man with a plan
César “Batman” Güemes (Alejandro Calva) revealed at the end of the previous episode that Oleg Yasikov (Antonio Gil) is alive. We see through some flashbacks and exposition to a random helper that Batman had learned of Teresa Mendoza’s (Kate del Castillo) meeting with Zurdo Villa (Flavio Medina) and decided to check things out. He witnessed the fight that ensued and, once everyone was gone, grabbed Oleg.
The injury Sheila (Cuca Escribano) noticed before was a rookie mistake when Batman tossed his jacket and the gun inside accidently discharged. He’s embarrassed at the idea that could have killed him, but happy about his acquisition. He thinks this surprise for Teresa will help him settle an outstanding debt.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Devastating blow
Meanwhile, #TeamTeresa is a little lighter today, as Teresa meets with Sheila, Ahmed (Abdelali el Aziz), Marcela (La Conjeo, played by Carmen Navarro), and Paloma Aljarafe (Agata Herranz). She breaks the news about Jonathan Peres (Tiago Correa) and Sofia Dantes (Isabella Sierra), which leaves everyone stunned and upset, especially given the loss of Oleg as well.
Everyone wants to help Teresa in whatever comes next, but Teresa brushes them aside. She says she needs a little time to think, but they’ll hear from her again when she’s figured out how she’ll get revenge on those who targeted her daughter.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Where’s Teresa?
Francesco has some explaining to do. Manuela (Paola Núñez) and Alejandro Alcalá (Mark Tacher) are waiting for him. After giving Manuela a bit of hell for Teresa’s escape, she and Alejandro are in full problem-solving mode. Alejandro is wondering what’s taking so long.
When Francesco shows up, Alejandro asks several questions about where Teresa might be and what she might do next. Francesco replies that wherever Teresa went, it’s going to be somewhere he doesn’t know about. He also informs them that Teresa never let him drop her at her place, but does say she’d leave Culiacán. Alejandro wants to know where she might have gone next, and what road she might take. He knows Francesco, and knows that Francesco would be aware of those things.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Shocking reveal
Through some flashbacks tonight, we learn not only did Francesco warn them about the hit, but he told them the DEA was well aware of what plane Teresa was planning to get on. It’s bugged and rigged to blow on Alejandro’s command. Teresa is confused, because Epifanio Vargas (Humberto Zurita) is the boss here as far as she knows.
They ultimately trust in Francesco, and a plan is set. The whole getting-the-cat thing was a ploy that distracted Manuela enough to allow Jonathan and Sofia to escape the plane unharmed. Sofia is then dropped off with Cayetana to stay with her in Spain.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Mom war
Teresa meets Jonathan on a boat, where the two end up getting close before things really take a turn. Teresa calls the Aljarafe residence, where Cayetana Segovia (Luisa Gavasa) and Charo (Carmen Flores Sandoval) have literally just walked in the door. Charo answers and is ready to hand her off to Cayetana, but that’s not who Teresa wants to speak with.
It’s Sofia.
She reminds Sofia that it’s important she lay low so people think she’s dead. She also doesn’t want to hear any more about Francesco and the feelings he and Teresa supposedly have for each other. She just wants to hear Sofia’s voice, as she’d been terrified they hadn’t gotten out of the plane in time. After warning Sofia to watch herself, she wants to speak with Cayetana.
The two women get into a bit of a mom war as Cayetana tells Teresa that she now knows how Cayetana feels about her. Teresa just doesn’t want Cayetana to poison Sofia’s mind against her, then explains the only reason she’s trusting Cayetana right now is because she has no choice. She and Teresa have both been pawns in a DEA plan that is putting their lives at risk, and everyone has to think Sofia is dead.
Before they hang up, Teresa lets Cayetana know that if she dares to betray her, Teresa is the best at hiding bodies.
