In your Thursday, June 13th La Reina del Sur recap, Teresa Mendoza (Kate del Castillo) joins Francesco Belmondo (Raoul Bova) and his “family”, while Sofia Dantes (Isabella Sierra) gets in touch with her pyro side. If you missed the action, let’s get to your La Reina del Sur spoilers.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Bold move
Sofia pulls what is probably her boldest (and most destructive) move yet to escape Kidnapper’s Island. While Ceaser “Batman” Güemes (Alejandro Calva) is sleeping on the job, Sofia continues getting together a bunch of stuff that she puts into a big pile. She douses the pile in some liquid, then pulls out a lighter. Soon, a huge bonfire is happening, and we’re wondering where Sofia got that lighter. Anything she had from the safe house should’ve have been confiscated, along with keeping any potential fuel locked away. It’s so hard to find good kidnappers these days…
The flames are nice and large by the time Batman wakes. He can’t believe what he’s seeing and rushes to put the flames out. He even orders Sofia to help, but she cites her injured arm as the reason she can’t. Ha!
The fire does its job, because soon some officials are arriving via boat to check things out. Batman explains he’d been having a barbeque and it got a little out of hand. Right. The officials don’t seem to buy it, either, and they want to look around. One in particular tries to enter the house, where Sofia is now safely tied up and gagged in a bedroom. Batman manages to talk his way out of the man coming inside with the help of some green motivation. Despite all the noise Sofia is managing to make, he accepts the stray cat explanation (really? On an Island?) and leaves.
Batman is furious and lectures Sofia once the cops are gone. He says she could’ve gotten him killed by the boss if the cops found her. Sofia doesn’t seem to care. She says she’s never going to stop her escape attempts. Later on, she writes in her diary about her goal: to get out of here so she can live far away with her abuela (Cayetana Segovia, played by Luisa Gavasa).
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Dinner with the “Familia”
Today, Francesco is in a bit of trouble. He can’t keep making excuses to Teresa without rousing suspicion, but he was lying to her about this family of his. To solve the issue, he reaches out to a woman he’s known since they were kids in an orphanage, Vita. She just happens to have a couple kids, and is open to more… unconventional work. He, after all, tracks her down on the street. He offers her a bunch of money to play the role of his ex-wife, and to bring the kids as well.
Later on, Teresa arrives to only find Francesco at the restaurant. He explains the ex is late a lot, and soon his old friend arrives. She plays the part well, improvising a few times, much to Francesco’s annoyance. He wants her to keep as quiet as possible, and keep the story as straightforward as they can. He explains this while Teresa excuses herself a moment to take a call. The rest of the dinner goes off without a hitch—sort of. Teresa suspects nada.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Los celos
Zurdo Villa (Flavio Medina) is the reason the dinner ends on a light hitch. He’d invited Teresa out, but she’d begged off, citing a previous commitment. He, being obsessed with her, finds out where she is and decides to spy a bit. He’s obviously jealous and annoyed by her having dinner with a man (even with the “family” there).
Soon, he and Teresa are alone. She doesn’t appreciate his jealousy at all, and reminds him that their partnership is a strictly commercial one. He backs off some, but does swear to Teresa he’s going to win her over.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Tired of lies
Francesco’s conscience is getting to him more and more by the day. After he drops off his friend, she makes a comment to him that she hasn’t seen him in love before. Obviously still thinking about that, he finds his way into her room, where he’s waiting after she says goodnight to Zurdo. They end up getting close again, but this time Francesco is making a lot of cryptic comments that hint he’s having a really hard time keeping up this farce, because he really cares for her. The only problem is, he knows he’s obviously not going to fare well after she learns the truth about him kidnapping her daughter.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Going too far?
Renata (Carola Cuarón) is also not having a good day. She goes to her psychologist, Vicky, as Zurdo and his ex, Carolina, are worried about the girl’s imaginary friends, especially her latest obsession about a kidnapped Sofia. Vicky speaks with Renata for a bit, and the child produces the note she’d found in that bottle. Despite the handwriting not matching, Vicky isn’t swayed. Renata begs her not to tell mom, but Vicky promises her everything’s going to be fine.
Once alone with Carolina, Vicky tells her she believes Renata is suffering from DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). She believes “Sofia” is Renata, feeling as though she is a hostage in her highly guarded world. She claims that Renata likely changed her writing for the letter as a cry for her own rescue. She asks Carolina not to be too hard on Renata if she brings up this “friend” again.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Loyalty wins
Rocío Aljarafe (Sara Vidorreta) isn’t sure about this budding romance with Faustino Sánchez Godoy (Lincoln Palomeque), as he’s in a very dangerous and complex world that her own father didn’t come out of well. However, Faustino is more into her than ever because he overheard Rocio refusing to betray Teresa. He values that sort of loyalty.
