Friday, May 17 La Reina del Sur spoilers bring a huge blow to Teresa Mendoza (Kate del Castillo), and a whole new problem for her to solve while Sofia Dantes (Isabella Sierra) continues to learn the ways of the streets. If you missed the action, let’s get your highlights in today’s La Reina del Sur recap.

La Reina del Sur spoilers: Custody battle

Cayetana Segovia (Luisa Gavasa) hires a lawyer named Rodrigo Menendez to get custody of her granddaughter. She lays everything out for him, and he agrees to help. Good luck, lady. Teresa isn’t going to take this kindly, and no one knows where Sofia is right now, anyway.

La Reina del Sur spoilers: Eyes all over

Sofia is the hot topic today, as Epifanio Vargas (Humberto Zurita) and his men are using all their resources to find their bargaining chip. They’re going over tons of surveillance footage with a fine-tooth comb to locate her. Alejandro Alcalá (Mark Tacher) catches sight of her by the end of the episode, so he knows what station she’s likely around.

Meanwhile, Sofia is getting a crash course in street kid life by the awesome Simon. Seriously, what happened to the Telemundo writers? They’re making these kids way too cool, and we love it. Anyway, he shows her his makeshift room built in the control area of a subway station. They’ll be safe there for the night, even thought Sofia is freaked out by all the rats they come across. While they’re resting a bit, Sofia gives a demonstration (well, as good of one as she can in the small space) of the skills she learned in flag team, using some streamers they made out of sticks and what appeared to be a poster. He thinks that Mrs. Mercedes is going to love it.

The next day, he introduces her to his dictator, and she seems impressed enough by Sofia. She gives permission for Sofia to work a certain area with Simon, but reminds them she has eyes everywhere. They’re both going to abide by the same deal Simon’s already operating under. Once the kids are gone, she makes a call to say that the girl they’re looking for appeared. Oops.

La Reina del Sur spoilers: Deal’s off

Teresa is having a hell of welcome in Mexico. She steps off the plane to see she’s got a voicemail. It’s the message Sofia left, saying Teresa is a liar and that she killed Sofia’s dad. Teresa looks completely devastated, and the group is worried about her. She plays the message for them, and everyone tries to reassure her, but Teresa is in panic mode—and angry as hell.

After sending the rest of the group ahead with Anton (Dimitry Anisimov), she and Oleg Yasikov (Antonio Gil) head toward Epifiano’s place. On the way, she calls him and says he broke his promise and the deal’s off.
Inside his house, Epifanio is freaking out. Alejandro has Epifanio put his cell on speaker when Teresa calls back. She informs Epifanio she wants to see her daughter now, and won’t take no for an answer. What’s more, she’s right outside his house and wants to see him immediately. If he doesn’t let her in, she’ll get in on her own. Epifanio eventually agrees, and Teresa leaves Oleg behind—she doesn’t want to show all her cards right now. Inside, she once again tells Epifanio and Alejandro that someone obviously spilled her real name, and Sofia has managed to look her up. Epifanio claims he has no idea how she got the phone to call, but he assures her he’s already taken care of the problem employee that spilled the beans. As far as Teresa is concerned, the damage is already done. They’ve got two days to get her in touch with Sofia, or there’s no more deal. When Alejandro tries to jump in on the conversation, she informs him she doesn’t deal with middlemen. Then she tells him to smile as she snaps a photo of him.

Not trusting them, she gets in touch with César ‘Batman’ Güemes (Alejandro Calva) and says she knows everything. Assuming that includes the escape, Batman blabs everything, and Teresa is clearly not happy to know her daughter’s wandering the streets somewhere. She wants to meet with him, and threatens to tell about that call and how Sofia was given the chance to show off her mural. He agrees.
While waiting to meet with Batman, Teresa and Oleg search for Sofia, but don’t find a trace of her. She goes back to the safe house, where she cleans up and gets some more encouragement from the group before leaving to meet Batman. She eventually manages to get him to help her.

La Reina del Sur spoilers: Complications all over

Margarita Dávila Parra (Martha Calderón) appears looking for help with her son, Ray Dávila (Alejandro Speitzer). He’d been hired by gringos to track an illegal cryptocurrency deal worth five million. After it was tracked, the criminals were supposed to be taken in y punto. Not so easy. Apparently, Koreans are involved and they’d clued in to what Ray was doing. Now he’s being hunted down, and mom wants Willy Rangel (Christian Tappan) to help. As if Teresa hasn’t got enough on her plate, he says he’s sending Ray and Margarita to Mexico so Teresa can lend a hand. Apparently, she is a friend of Margarita’s. If we were Teresa, we might be tempted to do very bad things to her so-called DEA buddy. Isn’t having to take down a drug cartel for her enemy in order to get her daughter back while a couple sets of enemies are gunning for her enough? And let’s not forget that she also had to help get Rocío and Paloma Aljarafe (Sara Vidorreta and Agata Herranz) out of Spain.
