Legendary Actress Doris Day Passes Away At 97
The foundation told the press in a statement that Day had been in excellent health for years, until recently when she contracted a serious case of pneumonia. She was known as a “honey-voiced” singer and a gifted actress who starred in a number of dramas, musicals and comedies during the 1950s and 1960s. She was also often known as one of the most popular screen actresses of her generation.
And while Day was often regarded as one of the most celebrated actresses of her time, she has made it pretty clear that her life has been full of ups and downs. Some of them included the traffic death of her only child, three divorced and the death of a husband who squandered her earnings and left her deep in debt. It contrasted that of her public image of the good-girl next door who was always seemingly happy.
She chronicled her life in her 1976 tell-all book, Doris Day: Her Own Story. The actress wrote, “I’ve been through everything. I always said I was like those round-bottomed circus dolls — you know, those dolls you could push down and they’d come back up? I’ve always been like that. I’ve always said, No matter what happens, if I get pushed down, I’m going to come right back up.”
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Doris Day’s family during this very difficult time. It’s without a doubt that the actress’ legacy will live on in Hollywood, as she has made many contributions to the entertainment industry during her 50-year career.
