La Reina del Sur 2 Recap 5/15/2019: Season 2, Episode 17 “Corre, Sofia, corre” (Run, Sofia, run)
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Panic time
News of Sofia’s escape is hitting Epifanio’s people, and it’s creating quite the stir. Epifanio wants the girl found before she can call her mother and blow Francesco Belmondo’s (Raoul Bova) cover. Francesco basically has an “I told you so” moment, reminding them he’d warned them all Morgana (Norma Angélica) wasn’t the right woman for the job. He theorizes Sofia used Morgana’s superstitions to scare her in retaliation for the mistreatment Sofia suffered at her hands. He assumes Morgana ran out into the street without looking and got flattened. Sofia, seeing a chance, took it.
Alejandro Alcalá (Mark Tacher), despite the daunting task ahead, thinks they can find Sofia easily. He questions Francesco about the chase Sofia led him on. Together, they determine she must be in a certain area. Epifanio, who was already planning to get César “Batman” Güemes (Alejandro Calva) out of jail, agrees. Batman will set up a perimeter, along with a bunch of people they have at their disposal.
Epifanio may have other problems, though, and it’s kind of his fault. Before learning of Sofia’s escape, he’d gone to visit Father Anselmo for two favors: a blessing, and steering Carmen Martínez (Patricia Reyes Spíndola) on the right path—accepting the divorce. While they’re talking, Epifanio gets the call about Sofia and the father overhears mentions of a dead person and someone who got away.
As for Sofia, she’s making her way through the Mexican streets and has now ditched the jacket she was wearing. She’s also cleaned her face off, so she might not be as easy to find as they think. Also? She’s seeing Morgana all over. Poor kid’s got a guilty conscience.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Family feud
Genoveva Alcalá (Kika Edgar) and Alejandro get a not-so-pleasant visit today from their father, Antonio Alcalá (Eduardo Yáñez). Word’s apparently gotten back to him about his daughter’s relationship with Epifanio, and he ain’t happy about it. He thinks she shouldn’t be wasting her time on someone who’s been feeding her a ton of lies, as he doesn’t believe Epifanio is an innocent man.
Furthermore, he is beside himself that his son has also gotten mixed up with him, calling him Epifanio’s flunky. He believes Alejandro is better than that, and should be focusing on building a political career of his own.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Plan in motion
While all that is going on, Oleg Yasikov (Antonio Gil) has gotten a ton of information from contacts in various countries about Teresa’s target. It’s not going to be an easy job.
To help reach her goal, she uses the contact information Oleg has found to get in touch with some old friends that might be able to help: Sheila and Ahmed (Cuca Escribano and Abdelali el Aziz). Teresa goes to their workplace and offers them a job with her in Mexico. They jump at the chance, as the economic crisis has hit hard, and they’re basically working for slave wages. Sheila is especially happy, because Ahmed has been talking about going to Morroco, and she doesn’t like the way women are treated there. After quitting (and insulting the establishment’s beer at the same time), the group leaves with Teresa almost losing it over Sheila’s critique.
Elsewhere, Marcela (Carmen Navarro) is also on Teresa’s agenda. The problem? She’s being watched 24/7 because of the incident with Siso Pernas (Miguel Ángel Blanco), who is still trying to get to her. Besides that, her boyfriend (Fermin) doesn’t want anything to do with her. Her day’s about to get better, though, because Teresa has sent a message with a pizza covered in Mexican chili peppers. She’s going to help Marcela get out of the house, and Marcela couldn’t look happier about it.
La Reina del Sur spoilers: Goodbye, Abuela
Teresa proves she’s a far better person than most would be today. She informs Rocío and Paloma Aljarafe (Sara Vidorreta and Agata Herranz about Cayetana Sevogia’s (Luisa Gavasa) appearance, then encourages the girls to visit her before they leave.
The girls listen, and Cayetana assumes they’ve come to kill her for the Mexican. They promise they’re just here to check in on her.
While there, Captain Pablo Flores (Juan José Arjona) shows up and Cayetana actually hides the girls from him. He’d come to inform her about Teresa possibly taking the girls out of the country. She denies having heard from them, then insults the man by saying he’s a crap cop, and that’s why the Mexican keeps escaping him. She denies him the chance to search her home, then suggests he takes a vacation.
Once the coast is clear, the girls come out and thank her, but that moment of kindness is apparently all Cayetana has in her. She tells the girls she never wants to see them again, before walking away. She takes her malice a step further by promising her late son, Teo Aljarafe (Miguel de Miguel), that the murderer isn’t going to raise her granddaughter. Dang. Teresa made a really bad call on showing those DNA tests.
