La Reina Del Sur 2 Recap 4/29/2019: Season 2, Episode 5 “La hora de los Pernas” – The Pernas’ Hour Has coME
Manuela is visiting her mother in the hospital, who has just about given up. Manuela urges her mother to keep going, because Sergio needs her. Her mother asks about Jonathon Peres (Tiago Correa), but she says he was just a stepping stone to Teresa Mendoza (Kate del Castillo), who she’s finally found. She compares it to a finish line in a marathon, but her mother warns her that when you’re on a vengeance mission, you better dig two graves. Before Manuela leaves, she promises that she’ll look after her nephew.
La Reina Del Sur: Time’s up?
Teresa has fallen into a trap by Siso Pernas (Miguel Ángel Blanco), who blames her for his father’s humiliation. He claims that Teresa forced him into a deal years ago that cost them half the market, but Teresa thinks it belongs to whoever earns it. He’s not amused. They go back and forth a bit before Teresa uses a chair to attack. A huge fight breaks out that includes gunfire, but Teresa has it covered. She throws some bottles of booze, then lights the place on fire to make her escape.
Outside, she’s greeted by the apparently not a rat Jesús (Jesús Castro). She gets into the cab and tells him that if he wants to meet La Reina del Sur so bad, here she is. He admits that he’d done some searching and discovered who she really is. He even admits to considering ripping her off at one point, but that call from Willy Rangel (Christian Tappan) about the cops being on their way changed his mind. He hates cops. They take off, but Siso and company aren’t far behind. A car chase takes us through part of the city, with Jesús losing their enemies a couple of times before coming across a police road block. Knowing they’re likely looking for her, Teresa orders him to make a turn. This turns out to be both good and bad. It’s good, because she’s not heading for la carcel right now, but it’s bad because Siso and the others have caught up with them. Once again, we lose a potentially cool character before we really got to know them, as Jesús is shot and Teresa is taken captive.

Later, they bring Teresa into a building where animals are slaughtered. There are pig corpses hanging from the wall, and Teresa soon joins them. She’s left hanging by the arms before they drop her into the machine. Feeling pretty good about themselves, Siso shares the good news with Cayetana Segovia (Luisa Gavasa), who wants her maid to bring out their best booze to celebrate this moment with her grandchildren. First, she calls Epifanio Vargas (Humberto Zurita) as well, who is not so happy and thinks he’s going to need a plan B. Not so much….
Why? Because a man by the name of General Abdelkader Chaib (Eduardo Velasco) had managed to stop the machine and keep Teresa from getting turned into mincemeat. Teresa is obviously shaken, but grateful to him. He takes Teresa somewhere to clean up before the la policia can arrive to take her away. And we think we like the Telenovela gods much better than the soap ones. They tend to be much kinder. We’re not sure who is luckier right now: Teresa, Yolando of La Piloto, or La Diabla from Sin Senos Si Hay Paraiso. Seriously. These people have more lives than a litter of cats.
Anyway, after a very distressing phone call (more on that in a sec) that leads to her threatening Epifanio more (which Alejandro Alcalá, played by Mark Tacher, shuts down immediately). General Chaib manages to calm her and get her to focus on what she needs to do. But first, she’s heading into the ring (the bull ring, that is) to face Cayetana.
La Reina Del Sur 2: Pushing her luck
So Sofia Dantes (Isabella Sierra) is still locked up by Francesco Belmondo (Raoul Bova) and Morgana (Norma Angélica). She comes up with yet another escape plan today, which entails her playing sick. She sneaks around behind Francesco’s back to make it look like she’s got a sky-high fever and is in need of help. She almost gets away with it, too, because she’s left completely on her own for a short time as Francesco goes in search of help while Morgana is out. Unfortunately, he remembers leaving her room unlocked, so he gets back in time to stop her from actually getting a call through. Not that he’s aware of that. She still has the phone, though, which is in need of charging.

Later on, Morgana brings her some herbal tea to help her fever and Sofia creates a distraction by dropping the cup in order to sneak out of the room a sec to grab a charger that’s plugged into the wall. Morgana is none the wiser, so while la bruja goes to make another cup, Sofia plugs it in and calls a special number her mother set up specifically for if they are ever separated. She manages to let her mother know she’s in Mexico before Francesco comes in and steals the phone back. Oops. Well, we guess ya gotta lose some here and there, right?
