The Young and the Restless Recap: Phyllis Is Grilled On The Stand
It all begins when Mariah (Camryn Grimes) tells the courtroom that she doesn’t know who sent her the video with the incriminating evidence that proves Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Sharon (Sharon Case) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) were all involved in JT Hellstrom’s murder. She says that no one from the Dark Horse sent it to her. Sharon is feeling increasingly anxious, seeing her daughter grilled by Michael (Christian LeBlanc). Nick (Joshua Morrow) then asks Michael why he was so tough on Mariah. He claims that he’s just laying out the groundwork in case they have to expose the blackmail.
Outside of the courtroom, Summer (Hunter King) tries to console her mother Phyllis before she takes the stand. Nick then appears and tells Summer that her mother is only trying to save herself. Phyllis tries to defend herself to Nick, but he doesn’t believe a word she says.
Phyllis then takes the stand. She describes what kind of abusive person JT Hellstrom was. She also says that Nikki did what any mother would do, and that’s defend her daughter. Phyllis also describes in detail how close JT was to assaulting Victoria. When Christine (Lauralee Bell) asks Phyllis If she ever recalls Victoria hitting JT, she says she can’t recall. Christine then reminds Phyllis that she’s under oath, prompting the judge to call for order. Phyllis continues, claiming that she and Sharon stood still while Nikki reached out for the fire poker. After going back and forth, Christine tells the jury that they didn’t kill JT in self-defense. Instead, they murdered him.
Michael then cross-examines Phyllis and points out that JT might not have been dead when they dragged his body to Chancellor Park. Phyllis also can’t explain why JT’s body went missing. Behind the scenes, Nikki, Victoria and Sharon see that the lawyers grilled Phyllis to no end but are worried that they might do a take two on them.
Meanwhile, Billy (Jason Thomson) and Nick wonder out loud if Phyllis threw the other ladies under the bus the way she did out of sheer jealousy. Jack (Peter Bergman) is also stunned to see what’s going on in the courtroom. Both he and Billy agree that they need to save Jabot and that Phyllis might easily bring all of them down. They ponder their next move, hoping that Phyllis’ reputation won’t destroy their company.
